Washington April 9 A powerful group of Democrats favors Indianapolis as the site for the 1928 national convention. New York is ruled out due to memories of 1924. Boston and Chicago are considered but Indianapolis wins broader support for an agreeable backdrop. The choice aims to avoid contentious, obtrusive background and reflects party hearts.
Dedham May April 1931 AP reports Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were condemned to death for the payroll guards murder during an attempted robbery in South Graviate. Thomas D Campbell of Hardin Montana famed operator of a massive farming empire will launch a non rising operation in the Helena district. He and Robert P Blewitt of Scranton conferred with Hugh Thomas Carter on bonding and leasing the Gold King mine in the Carter estate holdings southeast of Helena. The Gold King, once the Blacksmith group, has a noted history with attempts to mill talc-rich ore. The Edward F. Blewitt company formed to develop the property met early challenges from ore with talc gumming stamps, leading to a stoppage in 1910 and a revival under T Hewitt of Helena with new milling that started on old dumps before a fire damaged the mill. Cyanide ore prospects were described as simple in character.
