Oroville Wenatchee Route to Start This Winter

The Great Northern will begin the Wenatchee to Oroville extension this winter after eastern work closes. Labor shortages, frozen ground, and competing Hill line projects will delay start times, but eastern workers and local loggers may supply crews.

Important mining deal links Nicola Valley coal to new capital

PH Lantg for Incal and Eastern capital secured an option on 2000 nerves of Nicola Valley Coal and Tron Company holdings. Mines lie near Spence's Bridge and Con Gulley, with a 200 ft tunnel and high grade Vituminous coal. Development could support a Hedley smelter and rail shipments to Vancouver and western divisions of CP Rail.

Universal regret followed the death of Theodore Powers, a longtime Fairview butcher and well liked resident. He died Thursday the Sth, was buried Saturday, and had a history of frontier life in the west. Powers was cheerful, honorable in dealings, and will be missed by the community.

Trappers Fined for Beaver Killing on Roche River

Two trappers named O Lynn and Paul Johnson were reported to constable Howatt of Princeton for killing beaver on Roche River. The constable found beaver in their packs and brought them before Ernest Waterman J P who fined them 100 dollars plus costs. Costs totaled 85 percent.

Hunters bag eight point buck in recent week

M McAuley was among the lucky hunters last week and brought down an eight point buck. The Ferniecol strike delays track-layers and coal supplies for the engines. T D Pickard returned Sunday from a road trip in the Similkwaneen riding area as roads require much superintendent attention.
