Stampede of small-pox fears ends in valley quarantine lift

Vigorous measures stopped spread of small-pox in the valley's lower area. School reopened on Dr. Miller's permission after quarantine restrictions were eased. Barred houses are disinfected after the period ends. Public can travel between Keremcos and other districts, with quarantine kept on the railway until infected areas show clear signs of containment.

Montague Named Manitoba Public Works Minister

Winnipeg reports Sen W H Montague has accepted the Manitoba cabinet portfolio of public works replacing Hon Colin H Campbell who resigns due to ill health. Montague will be sworn in today as Campbell retains his seat. Montague’s long career includes early eighties prominence and tenure as Secretary of State before retirement from politics.

Kettle Valley Railway Tender Openings Near Osprey Lake

Vancouver reports that J Warren president of the Kettle River Valley Railway arrived from Kamloops with chief engineer McCullough. Fatal Pit Collapse Kills Penticton Laborers

About fifteen corporation workers in Penticton were in a pit by the Okanagan River when a bank failed and hundreds of tons of dirt slid in. Two wagons were being filled and men between them and the slide were crushed. Three named victims Janes Campbell James Boyce and Malcola Nicholson died and one man Weir was injured with a broken leg. Boyce left a widow and four children in Penticton.
