Gold Placer Digs Trace Across Similkameen to Mission Creek

Historical notes describe extensive placer mining along the Thompson, Vermilion forks, and Similkameen tributaries. Gold occurred in coarse scales with iron pyrite. diggings at Granite work and Twenty Mile Creek near Hedley City yielded modest profits. Pay streaks on Mission Creek near a gorge produced about 20 ounces daily at peak, while other sites showed limited long term activity.

Hedley Board of Trade Meets on Warm July Night

The Hedley Board of Trade held its July meeting in Fraternity hall with President R. G. Shier presiding. Auditors reported a balance on hand of 378.55. Members discussed procuring quarters, proposed moving into Hy Wright’s former shoe shop, mapping the ramp display, and street lighting, with a committee to approach the City Reduction Co about costs.

Keremeos Rail Line Progress Report Delays Limited

Yesterday the V2 and 1 reached Keremeos as Hag end track was laid in the guards. By night most guard trackage should be complete and carpenters begin on the Delmar station. Rail laying expected to finish end of week with ballasting near completion. Trains continue fubework over Armstrong bridge as timber ready for the spit and a week should finish the section to Keremeos for inspection.
