Robertson County deputy sheriff Tommy Howard will join the Texas Liquor Control Board on September 1, per Sheriff E P Elliott. Howard will complete a 30 day school in Austin to prepare for the new role, with Terry Fletcher replacing him. Fletcher, 27, formerly deputy sheriff in Marin and Rosebud city marshal, is married with four children.

More than one million dollars in federal funds are allocated to Hearne to upgrade a 33 block area downtown and surrounding blocks. A study to define needs costs will receive about $95,641 within two weeks, eight month timetable, public hearing planned, city council approval required, and a 75 percent federal share.
