Hearne General opens new coronary care unit

Hearne General Hospital unveils a two bed coronary care center with twenty thousand dollars of monitoring gear. Telemetry links the patient heartbeats to a nurse station with 300 foot range and a 15 second alarm delay. The unit aims to expand to four beds and features closed circuit TV for patient observation.

Safety Meeting Tuesday Night on Farm Lighting Rules

Hearne schools report total enrollment of 1,640 this year, down from 1,717 in fall 1970. North Side leads with 654 students, while Hearne High School campus holds 388. East Side shows the next largest total at 341, and West Side accounts for 257 students.

Four Franklin Men Attend Austin Industrial Conference

The Franklin Industrial Foundation sent four men to an Austin conference on August 30 to discuss a new financing system for industry. Participants included foundation president W. A. Nicholson El ton E Easterly Ben W. Deaton and Mayor Pryse Metcalfe Jr. Rep Dave Finney spoke as House sponsor of House Bill 339. The foundation promotes locating industry in Franklin Robertson County.

Tickets On Sale For Grid Opener Hearne Belton Game

Principal Henderson Murray at Hearne High School has reserved seat tickets for the Hearne Belton football opener in Belton on September 10. Belton officials will not sell general admission until all seats are sold, then standing room only is available. About 703 seats will be sold in Murray’s office on a first come first served basis. Student tickets must be purchased at his office or they will pay premium at the gate.

Hearne Lions Club members are taking orders for birthday anniversaries and other information for the community calendar. Proceeds support the Lions annual $500 Hearne High School senior scholarship, recently awarded to Bryant Spence. St. Mary's Altar Society of Bremond hosts a Labor Day weekend polka dance on September 5 at St. Mary's School Auditorium Two. Vrazel Polka Band from Cameron provides music from 8 p.m. to midnight. Hearne Eagles Face Belton in Season Opener

Hearne head coach Herb Sigle announced the starting lineup for the Belton game on September 10 at Belton. The 12 offensive starters include Ronny Baker, Robert Jefferson, Gary Mitchell, and others, with several players listed by position and weight. Defenders feature 11 of 13 from Massey, Nelson, Pharis, Baker, Jefferson, Mitchell, Werner, Brashear, Dunn, Baker, Shaw, and Parker. Mitchell may miss flankers and safeties due to a sprained ankle. Shaw is ill but expected to play. The squad totals 56 on varsity and 29 on the junior varsity, with a Cameron scrimmage set for September 2.
