Mr and Mrs R S Rittimann plus daughters Nadine and Jeanne returned August 21 from four months in Munich Germany. He was sent by Southern Pacific Railroad to inspect and test three new diesel hydraulic locomotives under construction. The group toured Vienna Zurich The Hague Versailles and Paris before sailing from Le Havre aboard the USS United States to New York City.

Truck Hits Guy Wire Causes City Power Failure
A large trailer-truck backed into a guy-wire near the Southern Pacific freight depot at about 2 a m Monday August 37 caused a 15 minute city wide power outage. The impact shattered high voltage lines swinging and slapping together burning the wire and grounding a parking meter post in front of the First State Bank stalling municipal plant generators. Telephone service was disrupted at the plant and repairs by city crews were hindered by darkness with a dawn restart briefly interrupting power to further areas.

Council Extends Contract For Garbage Collector
The Hearne city council extended R. E. Suggs garbage collection contract by 18 months to help secure financing for new equipment. A new regulation allows utilities sales to trailer parks at residential rates via a master meter, dividing power and water usage among trailers and billing individually.
