Poage comments on school prayer and pesticide act

Washington Views Congressman Bob Poage notes nearing end of session with hopes of adjournment by mid December. He cites votes on a constitutional amendment for voluntary school prayer, passage of the Federal Environmental Pesticide Control Act, and compensation for coal miners with Black Lung. He mentions President naming a new Secretary of Agriculture, Butz, and plans to work with him to strengthen rural economy.

Early Risers Bowling Week Highlights

Marie Buckley of Roadrunners led with a 524 two game series and a 193 single game in the action week before last. Barbara Webb of Bryan Aero had the second best 477 series while Donna Harrison of M G Sales posted the second high 182 game. Sylvia Bulot of Do Littles converted the 27 10 split. Frances Corpor a of Jenisch Chevrolet led Tuesday with a 507 series her first 500. Webb repeated with 474, Jackie Cross of M G Sales made 192 and Nan Gough 179 for second high game.

Hearings on insurance rules and bumper discounts set

Major insurance policy holders hearings are slated for December 8 to review new rules preventing arbitrary policy cancellations and a proposal to cut auto rates via shock absorbing bumpers. Allstate proposes up to 20 percent discounts for cars meeting bumper tests while federal rules push for 1973 model bumpers.

Mrs Glenn N Miller laid to rest in Hearne ceremony

Funeral services for Mrs Glenn N Mary Ruth Miller of San Antonio were held at 2 p m Friday November 12 from Heartfield Funeral Home Hearne with Rev R W Hillenkamp officiating. Burial followed in Giddings City Cemetery pallbearers were W R Pardo R E Brown L W Perkins P J Haas Gary Bradley and Raymond L Theiss She died in San Antonio on November 11 aged 41 years five months and 16 days She was born May 25 1930 in Hearne attended Hearne Public Schools later moved to San Antonio She is survived by her husband and one son Bruce H Miller of San Antonio and her mother Mrs A B Cherry of Hearne

Johnny Welch Service Sunday

Funeral services for Johnny E. Welch 54 of Groesbeck were held Sunday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Lemmon officiating. Interment followed at Fort Parker Memorial Park. Welch retired after 28 years with Southern Pacific Railway and is survived by a widow, two sons, a daughter, three grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters.

Rites Held For Macky McClure Franklin teen dies in two car crash

Funeral services were held for Macky Lee McClure 17 of Easterly at Franklin Baptist Church with several pastors officiating. The Franklin High School senior died after a two car accident near Franklin. He was a top offensive football scorer for the Franklin Lions and a Baptist Church member. Survivors include his parents, a brother, a sister, three half brothers, and a grandfather. Interment followed at Ridge Cemetery.

Mrs. P. A. Tullous Weekend Visit and Reunion

War Assets Admin to sell Hearne POW camp buildings

Twenty five years ago the War Assets Administration planned to sell the Hearne Prisoner of War camp buildings. After clearing, the land would be offered to Hearne city for purchase. Other notes include local residents earning contest honors and business transactions in Hearne.
