Woman dies after crash near Hearne in hospital life

Mrs. Ward CG Mayborn of Sherman died Sunday night in a Hearne hospital from internal injuries after a Sunday afternoon automobile crash seven miles south of Hearne. She and her husband, publisher of the Sherman Democrat, were returning home from a Bryan business trip when their new car, 700 miles, plunged into a ditch on the side of the road. The accident followed a preceding car and investigators suspect accelerator trouble. Mayborn suffered cuts, bruises and shock. she was stepmother of Temple Telegraph publisher Frank Mayborn.

Film For Lions A Texas Highways Show

Last Rites Held For Hearne Lady Sallie Wilkerson

Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Wilkerson were held at First Baptist Hearne with Rev. R L Brown and Rev. T Miller Smith officiating. Interment followed at Norwood Cemetery. She died at 79 years, four months, 25 days, at her daughter E R Vaughan’s home. Survived by daughters Mrs. Vaughan and Mrs. Blackstone, four sons, two sisters, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and numerous relatives from multiple towns.

Fence Purchase Approved For Grammar School Bi Way Side

At a Monday board meeting the school trustees approved buying and installing a fence on the Austin bi way side of the elementary school after bids. A Baptist church delegation offered to buy the old Bethany school site, with action deferred. Superintendent Jones noted no extra room needed unless enrollment rises, while junior high crowding may require more lockers and an extra seventh grade section next year with another teacher.

Death Takes Brother of Mrs. George Clark

R. C. Con Moody of Temple, well known in Hearne, died in Temple Friday night October 31 after a lengthy illness. He was 51. Moody, a former supervisor for the Texas Employment Agency, is survived by his wife Mary Moody, his mother Mrs. Wallace Moody of Cameron, two sisters Mrs. G. L. Clark of Hearne and Mrs. H. P. Culpepper of Cameron, and two brothers Dwight and Wallace Moody, both of Cameron. Funeral services were held in Cameron Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon.

Rew Concession Stand Opens at Wood Field

Hearne PTA builds and operates a new 10 by 30 foot concession stand at the north end of Wood Field for all future athletic events. The frame structure with a concrete floor will serve maroon and white Hearne High colors and offer coffee, sandwiches, hot dogs, pie, cake and soft drinks.

Hearne FFA to Appear on Houston TV Show at 12:30 p.m.

Hearne FFA members travel to Houston Tuesday to appear on KPRC television at 12:30 p.m. MC Don Cangelosi will host. Performers include Bobby Mullinnix and Leroy Broadus in a string duet, with Alvin Clapp reporting on the flower production project and several titled sweethearts and leaders such as Miss Matilda Loria, Miss Gloria Frost, Miss Betty Jean Nichols, Miss Wanda Frost, Louis Klement, Alan Klement, and W. Hearne County Supports Stevenson in Presidential Vote

In Hearne and Robertson County the tally favored Adlai Stevenson over Dwight Eisenhower by more than two to one. Texas gave its electoral votes to Eisenhower for the first time since 1928, with about 136000 lead statewide as 1.9 million votes counted. County boxes show Stevenson leading in Hearne boxes 705 to 1 Ike, with other precincts showing Stevenson ahead. Returns are unofficial and will be canvassed next week.

Funeral services for L. O. Walker held in Calvert

Lemuel Oscar Walker died Wednesday in Rusk at age 63. Funeral services were conducted in Heartfield Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Asbury Lennox officiating. Burial followed in Calvert cemetery. Survived by widow of Hearne, step-son L. L. Henderson, three sisters and two brothers.

Tidwell Family Attends 83rd Birthday in Haskell

Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Tidwell and Bobby visited Haskell for the 83rd birthday of D. G. Tidwell, the uncle of W. R. Tidwell. The weekend gathering brought together family members to honor the elder Tidwell.

Mrs H A Ely died last Friday in a local hospital after a long illness at 76 years. Funeral services were held at 10 30 a m Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Rev R L Brown and Rev T Miller Smith officiating. Interment followed at Norwood Cemetery under Heart funeral direction. Surviving family includes daughter Mrs 14 Pew and granddaughter Mrs M Thompson of Houston, grandson HL B Peel of Grand Prairie, and three Houston grandchildren. Mrs Susan Lloyd Dies in Bryan At 85

Mrs Susan Lloyd aged 85 died at the Bryan home of her granddaughter Mrs Cecil Seigler on October 29 after a heart attack. She had many relatives in Hearne and Robertson County and was born in Chapel Hill NC, moving to Texas in 1874. burial followed at Franklin Cemetery after services at the Baptist Church in Franklin.

City Police Beat Report on Local Crashes and Fines

Damage totaling 150 dollars was done to cars driven by Leroy Thomas and Leo Tatum at Ninth and Alamo last week. Tatum received a ticket for an improper turn. Cars driven by B C Watson of Orange and William A Andrews of Temple collided at Fifth and Market Streets early Sunday. slight damage and no charges. One man fined 12.95 in city court after Saturday night arrest. Two colored women fined 12.95 each after affray Saturday night. A man arrested for vagrancy Wednesday and sent to Franklin country jail to serve his fine.

Thief Steals From Market Street Businesses on Election Night

A thief visited several Market street business houses on election night. At the Roy Henry Pontiac Company $4 in cash and two 5 cent cigars were stolen. At Alt the Foodtown $10 in nickels was taken. No thefts at Super Sales or the Robsco locker plant. Entry was gained by breaking windows.
