Ballot Shortage Slows Last Minute Voting In Election

Voters at Hearne polling places faced a ballot shortage around 6 p m causing long lines as officials copied ballots to meet demand. County Judge Reagan and County Attorney Kuss improvised with a copying machine while some voters were unable to vote on the tax rate proposal. About 45 minutes passed before additional tax and general ballots arrived, with 2649 unofficial votes cast on the tax measure and many boxes reporting unused ballots.

New Arrivals in Local Hospitals

Mr and Mrs Alvin Thoms Springer welcomed a son named William Lynn on an October 41 birth in a local hospital. Mr and Mrs Willie L Sharp became parents to daughter Sharon Kathleen born November 3. Tyler couple Bill Henderson and wife welcomed twins David and Kay born October 23 in Tyler hospital, joining brothers Piez and Bruce. Grandparents are Mrs C E Smith of Hearne and Mr and Mrs Melvin Dempsey of Mexia. Melva Jean born October 21 to Mr and Mrs W W Morehead of Hearne.

County Vote Favors LBJ-HHH 4 to 1 in Robertson County

Robertson County voters backed Lyndon Johnson and Hubert Humphrey 3313 to 782 over Goldwater and Miller, with Yarborough ousting Bush for Senate by 3184 to 836. Voters approved a 30 cent tax increase on 16 valuation to fund farm to market roads, while three state constitutional amendments drew county majorities similar to statewide results. Over 3,600 Hearne residents voted. turnout split across precincts with Bremond rejecting the tax hike. Local officials noted substantial Democratic margins and continued support for state and national Democratic candidates.

Quarterback Club To Meet Tuesday Night

Hearne Quarterback Club will meet Tuesday at 7 30 PM at the Chamber of Commerce office to view the Hearne Rockdale game film. Club president J E Mathis says a scouting report on the Rockdale Navasota contest will be given in the same session. Dr and Mrs W H Lindsey and daughters, formerly of Hearne, visited Wichita Falls relatives and attended the Arkansas Texas A&M game in College Station Saturday night.
