William Stern, national vice commander of the American Legion, has long served the Legion since its inception. He helped organize the North Dakota department and Gilbert C. Grafton post in Fargo and has held key posts on the department and national level. Stern, born May 19 1886 in Fargo, served in the quartermaster corps during World War I and was discharged February 10 1919.
