Surprise party honors Miss Orrel Key on retirement
Miss Orrel Key, retiring after 21 years as Hearne High School history and civics teacher, was toasted at a surprise party May 14 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Youngblood Jr. Faculty colleagues attended, gifts and good wishes exchanged, and Miss Key announced plans to move to Madisonville and perhaps travel.

The Hearne Shakespeare Club, notified by District President Mrs. Cabi ness of Texas Federation of Women's Clubs, earned four state awards for 1962 63. It scored 95, ranking among the top three in the state, with Victoria and Corpus Christi just above. The club also received first place for musical programs under Mrs. J. Jackson and for translation work by Mrs. J. H. Collier, and earned a 100 percent participation award in Care chaired by Miss Mary Sears Herring.

Baptist WMU GA Observe 75th 50th Anniversaries
The Robertson County Baptist Association's Woman's Missionary Union and its Girls Auxiliary marked 75 years of WMU and 50 years of GA with a tea at First Baptist Church Ilearne on Friday May 17 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Attendees included about 100 WMU members from across the county. hostesses were First Baptist Church WMU members and officials. The program, led by Mrs. Hoyt and others, featured hymns, a skit, tributes, and a display with a three tier cake and world globe symbols, reflecting WMU and GA goals and activities.

Hearne High School juniors gathered at Bobby Tidemann and parents home at Goodland Farms Friday to celebrate summer break. Lawn games included table tennis badminton and croquet while music played. A snack course of dips chips Cokes and cookies was served to about sixteen students.

West Side Elementary Eighth Graders Celebrate Prom Night
Eighth grade graduates from West Side Elementary were hosted to a May 18 prom at the Municipal Clubhouse. Guests arrived past hurricane lamplit paths to a yellow white and green decor ballooned ballroom with a staged fountain display. The dinner featured barbequed turkey and assorted sides followed by cookies and iced tea as students enjoyed music games and a novelty skit. The event was hosted by class members’ parents and attended by about seventy five students along with teachers and spouses. George B. Wilson Jr later attended a Texas Retail Federation directors meeting in Houston.
