Hearne School Board Meets Monday Night

Hearne School Board tightens tractor use policy for vocational instruction and maintenance. It approves a 33000 purchase for 14 High School and 19 North Side classrooms window shades. Several teachers resign including Kim Merritt Cynthia Hounsel and Lovie Swansen. Two retiring North Side Elementary teachers receive merit certificates. Applications for combined tax assessor collector due May 20. Dr. Benarden to receive resumes. Local visitors Dr and Mrs Robert Wallis of Houston honored for Mother's Day.

Grace Methodist church at Hearne hosts a covered dish luncheon in the Memorial Building after Sunday morning worship on May 15 honoring the acolytes and choir members.

Telephone Directories Now Being Delivered

The Hearne telephone directory edition began delivery Tuesday May 3. The book features 18 pages of listings and 30 pages of classifieds with about 3,060 names and 7,405 extra copies ordered to meet growth and demand. It includes a Call Guide for emergency numbers dialing long distance and area codes for major U.S. cities.

Gause to be judged in regional improvement contest

The Gause community won the District 10 Community Improvement Contest and will be judged in Regional Two on Friday May 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Gause Community Center. Competing communities are Callesbug Cooke County Little River Academy Bell County and Salina Tom Green County. Regional judges are Garland McIlveen Hazel Dooley Otis Lowe and Ruth Shubtrine.

City Manager Steinheimer Resigns Over Health Concerns

City Manager A K Buster Steinheimer submitted his resignation effective June 1 after reporting dizziness and equilibrium issues. He has served since February 23, 1976, and plans to return to Waco for a hospital physical before deciding his future.

Highway Patrol Reports Quiet Week In Robertson County

Robertson County saw only three accidents and two drunk drivers among a quiet week. Calvert City resident Eugenio Naranjo caused a left cross into E B McCarver in a 3 pm May 2 crash on Highway 6 with no injuries. A Calvert incident involving William Walker and two year old William Alley left minor injuries for the child. Near New Baden on Farm Road 1940 Leona Anderson Green slid off a curve with no citations.

Band Concerts At Hearne School Week

Leon Jackson announced Hearne High and Junior High will hold two separate concerts next week. The High School and Junior High Choirs directed by Cynthia Hounsel perform their final concert May 17 at 7 30 p.m. free admission. The Junior High and High School Bands directed by William Burney present the annual Spring Concert May 19 at 7 30 p.m. in the Junior High auditorium.

Hearne City Council set May 23 as the meeting for considering city manager applications after A K resignation to Mayor Guy Chandler.
