Colts Win Close Game To Begin Little League Play

The Colt 45s of Calvert defeated the Braves 6 to 5 to open Little League action at the Lions Club diamond Tuesday night. Upcoming games include Giants versus Cardinals Thursday and Braves versus Dodgers Friday. The Little League Association, per President Fred C. Ferrara, will announce rosters and schedules by next week in The Democrat of May 11.

New Arrivals Announce Four Births in Texas Area

Mr and Mrs Don Payne of Edna announce a daughter Patti Yvonne born April 18 with grandparents Mr and Mrs John Mahan and Mr and Mrs Earl Payne of Hearne. Mr and Mrs James Jones of Calvert report daughter Theresa Renee born April 28 in Marlin hospital with grandparents Mr and Mrs T D Jones and Mr and Mrs Vince Campise of Hearne. Mr and Mrs John Ulrey announce a daughter born in a Pasadena hospital on Wednesday. Mrs Tom Palmos mother of Mrs Ulrey, is in Pasadena visiting. Mr and Mrs Bill Rider of Ennis are parents of son Alan Scott born in Dallas hospital May 1 with grandparents Mr and Mrs Raymond Wilserene Lake and Mrs W B Rider of Bruni. Infant is great nephew of Mrs EL Vaughan. Mr and Mrs Alfred Loper are parents of a son born May 1.

Senior Class to Stage Annual Play at Hearne High

Hearne High School senior class will stage the annual play in the High School Auditorium next Friday May 11 at 8 p m The play titled The People versus Maxine Lowe was written by Lou Ella McMahon The cast includes Andrea DeStefano Lucian Reed Pete Trentacost Marc Nigliazzo Genea Karney David Barnett Mark Ballard Elaine Lund Jean Escoubas Kay Clapp Joseph Cotropia Sammy Altimore Johnny Perry Sara Sue Wilson Towanda Youngblood Sherry Escobas Daisy Pope Anita Tippit More details will be in the May 11 Democrat.

A&M Short Course Hosts Oil Mill Supervisors

O F Britton superintendent Sherman Wright and Charley Biahuta of South Texas Cotton Oil Co Hearne attended a two day short course for Oil Mill Superintendents at A&M College on Monday and Tuesday. Roy Hinton retired with 31 years service joined in. T T Barnett from Hearne joined for a barbecue Monday night. Mrs O F Britton attended with wives at Memorial Student Center College Station for a two day social. Dinner party Monday evening hosted by Mrs Cecil Wamble at her Bryan home included Mrs Stanley Clark Mrs W B Harris and Mrs B D Deacon of College Station and Mrs George T Todd of Bryan.

Grand Jury Seeks Information on Henry Marshall Death

Robertson County grand jury requests information possibly contradicting the death by own action verdict in the Henry Marshall case. Articles in the Waco News-Tribune and Dallas Morning News claim USDA interest and possible murder linked to Marshall, a Texas ASCS program director.

Hearne Band Wins First in Sight Reading Contest

The 72 piece Hearne High School Band directed by Ted C Kelly earned first division in sight reading and second division in concert at the Regional contest in Waco last Friday. Kay Clapp and Bill Jackson won first division gold medals in the student conducting contest. Judges included Dr Frank Phillips Dr Gene Stuchberg George Royster and John Badgett. Other Class AA bands competing were Gatesville West and Hillsboro.

Grand Jury Returns True Bill Against L. Berrara

The Robertson County Grand Jury returned a true bill of indictment against Louis Berrara of Hearne for raping a Hearne widow on April 22. District Judge John M. Barron ordered Berrara held without bond until trial. Berrara was arrested by Hearne police and sheriff deputies who say he admitted breaking into the home and raping the woman.

The Hearne Chapter of Future Farmers of America elected officers Tuesday May 1 for the 1962 68 term. Funeral services for Mrs. J A Stewart of Lott

Funeral services were held Thursday at two oclock in the First Baptist Church in Lott for Mrs J A Stewart who died Tuesday night in a Marlin hospital at 63. Officiating was Rev A L Ashcraft. Burial followed in Marlin. She had long been a Baptist church member. Survived by three sons T A Stewart Hearne Will Stewart Waco and Truman Stewart Galveston, a brother and a sister, plus several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr Stewart preceded her in death in 1956.

Robertson County voters go to polls Saturday to elect officials from governor to precinct level and to vote on three proposed amendments to the State Constitution. Polls open 8 am to 7 pm with precinct conventions at 2 pm. Absentee votes tallied. 431 counted by Wednesday night.

Hospital Notes Report on Local Patients

Former Hearnite Ralf Black underwent surgery Tuesday at Nacogdoches hospital and is in satisfactory condition. Ed J. Schubrick of Calvert is receiving medical treatment locally. Mrs Brown Ely of Gause had foot surgery this week after a lawn mower accident and is hospitalized. Mrs John W. Nigliazzo is confined to a local hospital following minor surgery this week.

No Definite Action on Crossing During Week

In Hearne Texas the May 1 deadline passed with no firm decision on the Davis Street crossing shift four blocks north to Fourth Street. City leaders met with Southern Pacific officials at the hearne city hall to discuss possible modifications to the railroad proposal. John D. Ramsey agreed to study the alternates promptly and assess impact on the modernization plans for Hearne facilities.

Eagles To Play District Matches At Bryan And Home

Hearne Eagle baseball team splits with Rockdale and Cameron and travels to Bryan for a 7 30 p m district game at Travis Park tonight. Next Tuesday May year the Eagles host Rockdale Tigers at 4 p m at the municipal park diamond in Hearne after an 8 0 district defeat by Rockdale Friday.

Executive PTA To Hold Final Session

The Hearne Pascot- Teacher Association final 1961-1962 meeting will be in the High School Library at 7:30 p m Tuesday May 8. Chairmen must turn in reports to be bound in a booklet. The PTA also notes a district merit award with a 93 grade and a perfect 100 for the yearbook gold award.
