Dallas, March 23, 1933. Hammet B. Hurt known as Bob Hurt mails three dollars to support a Hearne Democrat readership during the moratorium debate. He, a Robertson county landman and Missouri Pacific Lines tax commissioner, praises editors, school trustees, and road overseers as the most patriotic groups, noting their frequent cussing and no pay.
A Victorian churchyard gravestone inscription reads Beneath these stones repose the bones of T. Grim. He took the beer from year to year, and then the beer took him. Florence Vidette comments on the quip and its healthful beer argument.
Mrs P P Hedges and Miss Floyce Welch hosted a surprise party at the Welch home on Friday for Grace Welch and Bradford Welch. About 25 neighbors attended to celebrate with games and prizes for peanut rolling prettiest girl and ugliest boy. Grace and Bradford found a birthday cake and gifts at the table after the games. Mr Casey Jones entertained with tap dancing.
Baptist W M Circle No 1 met at Mrs B W Harper with fourteen attending for a program on Building World Peace on the Word. Circle No 2 met at Mrs Ella Jones with twenty present for a Royal Service program including America, prayers, and peace discussions. Next week both circles meet at the church for a business session.
Mr F G Blake will not submit his name for a seat on the school board. Friends urged service to fill two vacancies, but he declined after being asked to run. He remains active in business and local civic work including leading the Robertson County Chamber of Commerce as president.
An open meeting of the Music Lovers Club at the High School auditorium is scheduled for April 4 at 7 30 p m. The program will feature folk music selections and the public is invited to attend.
Snowy dogwood blossoms and blue bonnets decorate the home of Mrs B W Harper for a Thursday afternoon Sewing Club gathering. Members and guests exchanged handwork, chatted, and enjoyed individual pies and iced tea served by Mrs Harper to listed members and guests.
Rev. F. Rivers, state TB lecturer, convened leaders of the Negro Clean-up Week Drive at Blackshear High School to plan Health Week. A Volunteer Health League formed with officers Maggie A. B. Kimbrough president I N Taylor secretary Martha L. Taylor treasurer committees named. Next meeting set for Wednesday March 28 at 4 pm.
Mr. L. W. Perkins withdraws from consideration for a Hearne School Board seat after learning Elsy Williams will run. Waltman remains willing to serve another term if voters desire. Editors note Perkins urged Williams’ bid and praises the board’s strong leadership amid current school problems.
