Hearne Eagles Split Openers With Mexia And Taylor

Hearne opened baseball with an 8 3 win over Mexia on March 10 in Mexia, then lost 2 1 to Taylor Monday. Eagles rapped 11 hits in Mexia, Kenny Johnson earned the win with 14 strikeouts, and Hearne built a 4 2 lead after three innings before adding runs in later frames. Taylor’s two runs came unearned as Hearne’s defense faltered late.

Ducks edge in tied game as Taylor hits decisive triple

Tom of the fourth put the game on ice for Taylor. With one out, the Ducks reached on a passed ball, an out followed, a runner moved to scoring position on an error, and a Taylo hitter’s triple drove in two runs. Eagles set home opener for March 17 against Huntsville at 4 p.m. Mexia meets Hearne at Bob Jones Park Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Hillsboro Relays Bring Teague Victory and McGregor Second

Hearne tracksters competed at Hillsboro High School Relays securing a winner’s title for Teague, runner up for McGregor, with Marvin Zeig fourth in the half mile at 2 10. Bill Sweet finished discus sixth with 133 feet, while Hearne’s Jake Webb also placed sixth in the high hurdles at 16 seconds. Eagles coach Ellis Kuehn Jr. crossed paths with former Livingston mentor Timmy McClendon of Teague. Team heads to Marlin for Falls County Relays with prelims at 12 30 p m and finals at 7 p m.

Hearne Jaycees Attend Three Day Texas Convention

Representatives of the Hearne Jaycees joined a three day Texas Area Six Jaycees convention in Galveston. Sessions covered policy making for clubs and community youth programs. Attendees included Pete Scamardo and several Hearne residents plus visiting families from Oklahoma and North Texas State University.

Thomas Foyt Services Held

Funeral services for Thomas EK Foyt of Mumford were held at 11 a m Saturday March 11 at the First Baptist Church of Hearne with Rev Buford Harrell and Rev James E Sicha officiating. Interment followed in Norwood Cemetery. Survivors include his widow, a son at the University of Texas and a daughter at Hearne High School.

J Hamilton Dies In Marlin

James Horace Hamilton aged 74 of Franklin died in a Marlin hospital Monday. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Franklin Baptist Church with Rev. Edwin Lewis, burial in Franklin Cemetery. A WWI veteran and retired Franklin Post Office employee, he was a Mason and member of Allen Heath American Legion Post. Survived by his widow Fannie Foote, married 1921, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for 75 year old retired Bryan area teacher Winnie R Petty were held at Hillier Funeral Home with burial at Franklin Cemetery. Pallbearers included A D Williams Dalton Vance Carla Rahnert Milton Smith Mike Adams and Pat Adams. Survivors: son Lynn A Petty of Baytown daughter Mrs Clarence M Adams of Bryan four grandchildren and two sisters Grace Curtis of LaMarque and Lillie Lockett Cohn of Hearne.
