Austin and Houston fought to equalize crude oil freight rates from Mexia Corsicana and Luling fields to Houston and other Texas ports. The Texas railroad commission set 13 cents for Houston and added ports Sabine Beaumont Orange Port Arthur Galveston and Texas City, cutting rates to the other ports by one cent per 100 pounds. The No 2 Plateau Texas Pacific Oil Company on block 15 survey 26 Las Animas Holbein ranch grant struck less than 2000 feet, swabbing oil at roughly 800 barrels per day.
The Penn well and Absher farm in Bazette Texas blew in after two weeks of watching by the oil fraternity. It produced 20,000,000 cubic feet of gas and an estimated 600 barrels of salt water. Hole depth reached 3086 feet with the gas likely from a higher sand encountered at 3064 feet. Humphreys Boyd Walt hall No. 1, 800 feet away, will drill out the plug and then move to standardize and drill in.
Wichita Falls Texas Wilbarger County reports Gulf Production Company's No 1 wildcat in section 50 W T Waggoner land block 14 completed on the pump for 50 barrels from a sand at 1290 feet. The well lies about three and a half miles south and east of the South Vernon pool and may spur a large drilling push in the county.
Goose Creek Texas reports Duke No 2 of Turnbow Interests flowed at about 1000 barrels per day for roughly ten hours before shutting in. Screen set at 3500 feet, roughly 60 feet deeper than Duke No 1 which first opened the field to production, crew investigating to restore flow.
San Antonio reports York Creek Oil Company drilling on the Fulshear tract of 500 acres in Guadalupe County at Luling field with gas showings at 1800 feet and gas strong enough to lift fluid halfway up the derrick. The 4 wildcat well draws attention as Rutledge on Pryor land north of t shows good signs and Fulshear No 1 adds to the excitement in the field.
In Fayette County Texas oil leases are being recorded. Lands around Weimar near Jane Taylor’s property one and a half miles west of town have been leased. A well exists near La Grange with another to be drilled near Swiss Alp and a third along the Navidad west of Weimar.
Helium discovery near Oakville in Live Oak County produces high quality gas milking 2 000 000 to 5 000 000 feet. Texas Company well on Reagan Heirs land at 850 to 900 feet depth extends the northerly Live Oak County field and offers gas of better quality than government Petrolla field output near Fort Worth.
