Stubbs Brothers Sell Businesses to Consolidated Freightways

Stoney M. Stubbs and Volney B. Stubbs confirmed the sale of Frozen Food Express of Dallas and F. F. E. Equipment Co. to Consolidated Freightways Inc. for 906000, subject to ICC approval. Frozen Food Express, a leading refrigerated carrier, posted 1959 revenue above 7 million dollars. both brothers will remain in their posts, with no policy changes.

Rehearsals For Booger County Minstrels Begin At Hearne

Rehearsals are nightly for the Booger County Minstrels to be staged in Hearne High School Auditorium March 17 and 18 at 8 p m. Directed by Sherry Albritton Band Director with Band Parents Association and Hearne Quarterback Club as sponsors. Proceeds benefit the Hearne High School Band. Cecil L. Jones of Hearne has been appointed to replace the late Frank Hall as Hearne’s night watchman. Jones began duties on March 1 after previously working for a railroad and Bryan Air Force Base.

Veterinarians Meet In Hearne Bi Monthly Assembly

About thirty members of the Brazos Valley Veterinary Medical Association gathered in Hearne on Tuesday March 1 for the bi monthly meeting. Hosts were Dr R H Brock and Dr C E Payne of Hearne. Funeral services for Mrs. W. J. Smith were held at Elliott Baptist Church at 3 30 p m with Rev Jimmy Best pastor of Five Points Baptist Church officiating Interment followed at Elliott Cemetery Heartfield Funeral Home in charge Pallbearers were her nephews Milton Bishop Jesse Bishop Herbert Bishop Marion Bishop Floyd Bishop and Truett Rose She died at her Hearne home after a long illness Born Lottie Bishop in Bishopville August 20 1890 she was 69 years seven months and seven days old She married William J. Slacks Recovered After Theft In Hearne

Bryan police recovered 35 pairs of dress slacks stolen from K. Wolens Stole In Hearne two weeks earlier. The pants were found scattered beside railroad tracks near Bryan by a Missouri Pacific Railway employee who reported the find. K. Wolens manager Mack Holt identified the slacks.

Norwood Milton Buried Thursday

LaGrange resident Norwood Milton, father of Mrs. R. E. Leslie of Hearne, died Tuesday. Funeral services were held Thursday in LaGrange.

Agency Approves Hearne Schools Accreditation

A Texas Education Agency visit led by Charles Eskridge and Milo Kearney concluded Hearne Public Schools have adequate buildings and good libraries with adequate instruction based on texts. The agency recommended continuing Hearne Schools as a fully accredited 12 grade system, says Superintendent M E Jones.

Last Rites Held For Mrs Vaughan in Hearne

Mrs Elizabeth T Bettie Vaughan 93 of Benton County Mississippi died at her son Edwin R Vaughan in Hearne after a long illness. Funeral at First Baptist Church Hearne February 28 with Rev Harold Wasson officiating. Interment Norwood Cemetery. Survivors include a son Edwin R Vaughan Dallas grandson Edwin Grant Scott and four great grandchildren. The Hearne City Council awarded standby power contracts totaling 39672 to Temple Inc San Antonio and Nelson Electrical Supply Co Dallas for substation equipment and transmission line work with completion anticipated before summer.

A film on the 1959 500 Mile Memorial Day Race was shown to Hearne Rotarians at the March 3 luncheon by program chairman O C Pierce Jr. Guests at the February 25 luncheon included Leon Trenchman of Bryan and Cayce Moore Jr. of Hearne. Rotary ladies night will be held March 10 at 7 30 p m.

School Census Shows Increase in Hearne ISD Enrollments

Supt M E Jones released figures showing Hearne Independent School District enrollment for 1960 61 rising by six students from 1959 60. January census totals project 1647 students next year, 1641 this year, with white schools at 859 and colored schools at 788, a white decrease of five and colored increase of 11. Census data were sent to County Superintendent Lad Nickelson Tuesday morning.

F. L. Merryman of Hearne has long traded tapes with Connie Tex Hat, a Vienna painter. Hat sent two Merryman oil paintings and, after the group The Bunkhouse Gang recorded Old Blue, Hat added illustrative work inspired by the tune.
