Mrs. Ila Speer Hines Dies at 73 in Hearne

Ila Speer Hines dies June 21 in Hearne after months of illness. Born October 4, 1892 in Nesbitt, she was a member of First Baptist Church. Funeral June 23 at 10 a.m. at Heartfield Funeral Home, Rev. C. W. Sanders and Rev. James Schratt officiating, burial in Norwood Cemetery. Survived by husband George Hines, a stepdaughter, a brother, a sister, and several nieces and nephews.

Myers Completes Army Training at Fort Hood

Pvt. Ira W. Myers 19, son of Mrs Ruth Matysiak of Hearne, completed eight weeks of advanced infantry training at Fort Hood on June 17. He received instruction in small unit tactics and firing M-14 rifle M-60 machine gun and 3.5 inch rocket launcher. Myers’ father and wife live in Houston.

Gatz Finishes Combat Training at Camp Pendleton

Pvt. Gregory Gatz son of Mrs Jamie Moore of Hearne completed four weeks of Marines combat training at Camp Pendleton California. The course involved over 200 hours under simulated combat conditions and will be followed by four weeks of basic specialist training. Bombers Bow To Eagles In Bob Jones Park Game

The Bald Eagles defeated the Bombers 13-8 at Bob Jones Park, putting the Eagles one game ahead of Calvert in the softball league. The opening inning saw six Bombers runs, but the Eagles answered with six hits and two homers to surge ahead, then added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to seal it.

Baxter Rites Rockdale

Funeral services for Doug Baxter killed in a traffic accident in Hearne were held in Rockdale with Minister Mike Coward officiating. Burial followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Surviving are his widow June Baxter two daughters Tamara Kay Baxter and Wilbur Lee Yakesh one grandchild his father Edward D. Baxter three brothers and three sisters all of various Texas towns.
