Three Special Elections Proclaimed For July 22

Governor issues three special election proclamations to fill vacancies in the Texas House. Mor ty-eighth district covers Burbeson County for the death of Thomas Kraucher. Thirty-fifth district includes Grayson County to fill J. Ellott's resignation as state department chief clerk. Ninety-ninth district covers Kinney Val Verde Maverick Pecos Brewster Jeff Davis and Reeves counties to replace A M Immey as Grayson County judge. A special session is planned in August with emphasis on appropriations and redistricting.

Wreck survey seeks removal of mud as corpses not found

The Maine wreck will require removing hundreds of thousands of tons of mud to reach the vessel. No corpses were found. A board of American officers inspected the wreck from a launch and said further exploration within seven to twelve days seems unlikely. Deterioration of the ship’s core structure suggests repair or refloating may be abandoned.
