Gulf States Utilities seeks eight and a half percent rate rise
Gulf States Utilities petitions Texas and Louisiana regulators for an eight and a half percent general electric rate increase effective with October billings. The change would raise annual electric revenue by about 15 million dollars, increasing a typical home bill from 20 to about 23.72 dollars monthly. GSU president Floyd Smith cites higher operating costs and rising capital costs to fund new plants as the justification for the higher rates.
