Personalised Auto Plates New Texas Status Symbol

Texas approves personalized license plates with a ten dollar fee plus regular registration. The measure could raise up to five million dollars for the General Fund, reserving one plate per applicant and restricting renewals by January 1. Applications go to the Motor Vehicle Division in Austin with full owner and vehicle details and a specific allowed letter and number format.

Students Return From Baylor Summer Music Camp

Donna Garrison and Bill Holt Jr returned from Baylor University in Waco where they joined about four hundred students in intensive band study at a Summer Music Camp. Both were named to the Gold Band, which had 70 members. Donna earned the Joan Phillip Sousa award 1965 at Hearne High School. Bill played baritone and cornet under director Dr. D T Moore, with a two and a half hour concert at Seventh and James Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon.

Legislature Session Praised by Rep Milton Schiller

Tomlin Resigns as Vocational Agriculture Teacher

Texas voter rolls fall in off year amid poll tax shift

Texas registered voters dropped by almost a million from last year as comptroller figures show declines mainly in mid-sized cities while major metro areas and rural counties held steady. Poll tax receipts fell from 2,892,670 in 1964 to 1,970,381 this off year, with only 3,314 obtaining free poll tax receipts though no federal elections are on ballots. Boundaries between Texas and Louisiana are reported agreed, with a boundary commission to certify the line and seek legislative ratification amid mineral land disputes.

Adams Elected Franklin Schools Superintendent

R. T. Adams was elected by the Franklin School Board as the new superintendent of Franklin schools. He replaces Roland Reynolds whose 34 year tenure ended. Adams will begin duties in July after serving as Cameron schools assistant superintendent with 14 years in administration. He holds a B S and M Ed from North Texas University and plans to move to Franklin with his wife and daughter Judy, a University of Houston student.
