Dual purpose shelters eyed in U S defense plan
The U S Defense Department considers modifying new public school space to serve as radio fallout shelters for about 20 million Americans, with grants covering up to two dollars and fifty cents per square foot. Shelters would require at least 50 people, be open in emergencies, and be stocked with food water first aid and radiation meters. The plan aims to boost nationwide readiness while balancing cost.
