Consolidating Texas Rural Schools Move Sparks Growth
In 1898 Texas allowed rural school consolidation and by now 635 larger high schools serve 2,000 former one room schools. From 1893 to 1920, 448 consolidations occurred, with 180 in 1920 and ongoing minor gains. East Texas hosts most of the 85 consolidated high schools, aided by better roads and transportation enabling rural students to reach central campuses.

Controlling Grasshoppers with a Sugar Molasses Mix
Instructions by R. R. Reppert, Entomologist at A and M College Texas, outline a five acre grasshopper control formula using white arsenic or Paris green with bran molasses and lemon juice. The plan urges immediate local campaigning by county representatives to disseminate the mash at or near sunrise or late evening depending on moisture, with thorough mixing and even distribution.
