The Hearne Cotton Compress Inc. will begin constructing a new 200 by 266 by 20 foot sheet metal and steel warehouse on Sixth Street to store over 12,000 bales of compressed cotton. Foundation contract went to R. B. Butler Co. of Bryan. Mestex Steel Buildings of Houston will erect it. Grinnell Co. will install the sprinkler system. Completion aimed for August 1. Vote Saturday.

The class offered vocal selections and the program closed with a benediction by Bobby Cruse.

13 Man Organization To Head Civil Defense Plan
Hearne City Council approved a local civil defense plan to guide emergency actions in nuclear attack or disasters. A 13 member organization will direct the effort with Dr J P Fleming Jr named Civil Defense Director, aided by four deputy directors and staff, each given defined duties. The plan aims to save lives, minimize damage, and restore society and property, and can be activated when the mayor and council declare an emergency.

The Summer Recreational Program begins Tuesday June 5 with swimming lessons at Hearne Municipal Pool. Lessons run Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 11 a m for girls 9 10 a m and boys 10 11 a m. Volunteers should contact Coach Ken Batson. High school program starts Monday June 11 with gym hours 8 11 a m on Mon Wed Thu. If enough boys enroll a pony baseball league may be organized for ages 16 and under with contact to Batson.
