Statewide effort to stamp out illiteracy in Oklahoma
A state wide drive led by the American Legion under Dr Frank I Mac Gregor aims to educate 56 864 literates including 5463 foreign born residents. The program uses the Jones yhin method with principal clubs visiting literate residents and pairing volunteers from teachers and students to provide reading, arithmetic, civics and American history. The plan starts this fall and hopes full school adoption within two years with broad educator support. Dr MacGregor, Mangum Ohio, veteran of WWI and decorated by King George for gallantry, leads the effort as chief Americanism official.
