Austin Hospital Teaches Girl To Save Herself And Others

Sue Gardner, a Hearne High School student with Bright's disease, learned peritoneal dialysis at Brackenridge Hospital and now dials herself at home. The five hour sessions occur three times weekly, costing over 7,000 dollars annually, with training overseen by Dr. Jack Moncrief and nurse Margaret Ann Moncrief. This medical training enables her to continue schooling and pursue vocational nursing.

Bell Telephone Expands Huntsville Office with 874 Sq Ft Addition

W A Cowan, manager of Southwestern Bell, announced plans to add 874 square feet to the Huntsville office. The west-side extension will match the current building and face Second Street to house extra switches and central office gear. R B Butler Company of Bryan leads the project, targeting a November completion.

Security Benefits Total 170000 for Robertson County

A record 170000 in monthly social security benefits is paid to Robertson County residents, up 3.8 percent from 1968. John H. Foy in the Bryan office notes 649 recipients under 60, including 374 under 18, 49 ages 18-21, and 226 ages 22-59.

Hearne School Board Delays Integration Decision

Hearne ISD postponed any action on HEW integration proposals at a special July meeting held in the Hearne High School band hall. About 150 white and Black residents attended as the board deferred a vote, citing Washington developments and a possible seven to ten day delay.

Parcel Post Weight Limits Raised to 40 Pounds

Postmaster Maxwell Barkley announced a postal policy change raising the Parcel Post weight limit to 40 pounds for shipments between first class post offices starting July 1. The 72 inch length girth limit remains for all first class offices while smaller offices and star routes have a 100 inch combined length and girth limit. a 84 inch limit schedule applied to certain routes.
