Hearne and nearby towns plan a two day holiday weekend with many merchants closing Saturday and most downtown retailers shutting doors. Calvert Bryan and Lone Star Gas announce closings Friday or Thursday as post office banks and city offices also suspend normal operations for the holiday.
Fire chief E C Suggs announced a citywide investigation into four false alarms in ten days with state statutes backing prosecution. The Hearne volunteer department, valued at over 50 000, urges residents to cooperate and report prank calls, noting the high cost and risk of non- genuine alarms.
Hearne Lions will honor their ladies next Tuesday night with an outing at Fred C. Ferrara's lake south of Hearne. Lions Dr. B. K. The Bremond Knight of Columbus Council invites the public to a July 4 celebration at St Mary's School ground and hall. A full day of activities includes a picnic, games for all ages, and a dance at night with barbecued beef sausage and chicken and sides.

Calvert and Robertson County residents are invited to the Calvert Clinic open house Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Railroad Street west of City Hall. The centrally heated facility offers waiting rooms, four treatment rooms, a laboratory and x ray equipment, and a recovery room. Dr. Robert L. Peters and his wife, a nurse, can handle emergencies, minor surgery and obstetrical care. The clinic will then operate Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9 to 5 and Thursday and Saturday 9 to 12.
Floyd S. Rood drives a coast to coast divot derby to publicize the Floyd S. Rood Youth in Sports Foundation. A Louisiana golf pro, he aims to help juvenile delinquents with training and build playgrounds, while film crews document the cross country stunt for charity. He began in Santa Barbara on January 15 and reached Hearne on June 29, delaying 87 days due to a spider bite and other setbacks.
Mr and Mrs Alan Wayne Myers announce the birth of a son Alan Scott in Tullahoma Tennessee on June 28. John E Hall of San Antonio welcomed Gregory Wayne born June 25. Victor Monte Jongo’s child born July 1 in a local hospital with weather mishaps en route. A traveling golfer, currently in Hearne, recounts numerous feats and anecdotes while pursuing a 3,000 mile 5,280,000 yard par 200001 course in Miami, promising proceeds to a foundation.
The Hearne Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Zone 3 residents at City Hall on Tuesday night July 14 at 7 30 pm to discuss recommendations for improvement and development of their residential area. Zone 3 lies south of the Missouri Pacific railroad and west of the Southern Pacific railroad extending to the city limits.
Robertson County announced five delegates for the Second Annual Attorney General's Youth Conference. Hearne residents Jack Britton Jr Tom Mooney Jr and Penny Sealone join Bremond's Jack Black and Franklin's Charles Lincecum. Conference July 9 in Austin aims to curb Texas youth crime with workshop sessions and a youth talent show featuring Sealone.
