The Woman's Missionary Society of the Methodist church gathered Monday afternoon at Mrs P A Reed's home. Mrs J W Black led a program on In Jurorment of Our Work and Christian Stewardship. Members were urged to pledge daily prayer for the society's work, treat meetings as engagements, support assigned tasks, give offerings regularly, and help enlist others. Adjournment followed with plans to meet Mrs J W Waltman January 29 for Bible study.
Inclement weather delayed the Mothers' Club meeting until January 10. Members discussed several school needs and agreed to turn the on hand funds over to Mr. Paschall for school ground equipment. The next meeting is Friday February 2. all members urged to attend and bring dues.
The Hearne Chamber reports progress on Wheelock road with 250 dollars from the chamber toward 100 dollars spent. A new school house boundary bill awaits legislature action before residents vote bonds and a 50 cent tax. Supt. Paschall seeks to host a county track meet in Hearne and a fund-raising committee of high school pupils is formed. the chamber donates 10 dollars. A nominating committee for directors is formed with eight candidates.
The Bankers' Safe Farming Campaign Team No 5 led by Geo S Bruce visited Black Jack school Friday morning after arriving ahead of schedule. Members included Prof Don Griswold A and M College Prof Geo Wehrwein State University Dr J G Steele U S Bureau of Animal Industry and Mrs J L Landrum State Department of Agriculture Home Economics. Miss Norma Lloyd and Miss Ruth Hancock visited Misses Kula and Emma Upshaw recently. Mrs. Jimmie Kinnard and daughter Miss Hattie Wilson spent Sunday with her daughter Mrs. Belle Tidwell. Mr. Maxie Dotson visited in Pranklin Sunday. Ai Goldman Bishop spent Sunday with Myraory Smith. Mr. Morene Wilson attended Sunday school at B.V. Sunday Brown byes.
The Hirst Baptist church will hold preaching this Sunday led by pastor Rev. Geo J McNew. All members of the community are invited to attend.

On Thursday afternoon the Shakespeare Club gathered at Mrs Billie Blaylock’s pleasant cottage home. Miss Snell led the study of Richard II while Mrs Philen conducted a round table. Mrs Pugh gave the critic’s report and Mrs Blaylock served a salad course with charlotte russe to attendees.
In a Monday doubleheader Calvert High School and Boy Scout teams faced Hearne High and Scout teams. The Calvert High School boys won the first game 16 to 15, while the Calvert Scouts captured the second with a 9 to 5 victory. Leading figures from Calvert included coach Prof. J. P. Cox and manager Rev. E. A. Ingram, with players Harry Garfinkle and family, George Field, Joe Gibson, Hubert Foster, Harry Wilson, Irvin Garfinkle, Raymond Garfinkle, Louis Friedlander, and Lewis Whatley.
