Scouts Gather In Houston For Annual Council Meet
Scouts from fifteen counties of the Sam Houston Area Council meet at the Rice Hotel Houston on January 26 for the Council Annual Meeting. The Arrowmoon District includes Hearne Bryan Franklin and College Station. The 3 00 pm report covers the 50th Anniversary achievements and plans for the year. A 6 30 pm nominating committee program leads the day with Gail Whitcomb directing. Awards will be presented at the banquet.

A tabulating card is being mailed for income reports. under both old and new laws, pensions halt if income exceeds set thresholds, with reductions possible if income rises within lower brackets. Church Elects Two Vestrymen
St. Philip's Episcopal Church held a parish supper and business meeting led by Rev. W. F. Merritt. Fred Tidemann and Walton Hall were elected to the vestry, replacing Eugene Hudson and A. J. Brazelton. Vestry officers named include N. L. McCarver as Senior Warden Matt Boyle as Junior Warden, Hudson as Treasurer and George B. Wilson Jr. as Secretary. Hudson elected delegate to the January council meeting with Wilson as alternate.

Bremond Couple To Leave For Ghana Missionary Service
The Rev. and Mrs. R. W. Terry and family will depart Bremond soon to serve as missionaries in Ghana. The Rev. Mr. Terry has led Bremond’s First Baptist Church for several years with Rev. Clem Hardy of Waco serving as interim pastor. Hardy is a retired Brazil missionary.

Education Agency Rules Against Bremond School
The State Education Commission ruled Bremond School District violated church state separation by using St. Marys Church building and nuns as teachers. Commissioner J W Edgar urged district to obtain a district owned building and noted the case may go to the State Board of Education or courts. The complaint, filed in 1959, followed voters rejecting bond proposals for a district owned school.

Hearne City Council Restores Manager Authority Over Police
Hearne’s city government briefly lacked a police department when the council met in special session on December 30 and declared all police positions vacant while ordering the city manager to hire and direct the force.
