Sam Hardy of Bremond became sole owner of the Oaks in Calvert on January 1 after purchasing Elmo Neal’s share. The facility, a 32-bed moderate nursing home licensed by the Texas State Department of Health, is in Robertson County. Mrs. Pearl Gummell was named director of nursing. Marvelyn Neal will be administrator.

Mrs. Lynn Johnson chairs the January 1967 Robertson County March of Dimes campaign stressing birth defects as the second leading cause of death and disability. She highlights 77 centers, research on defects, and the need for public support. Separately, 22 Southern Pacific cars derailed near Hearne on Mooring Switch injuring none. 250 feet of track damaged and a burned journal caused the crash.

Robertson County Officials Take Oath as Lester Rozelle Resigns
Robertson County officers were sworn in at Franklin Court House with Justice Lee Farmer administering. County Judge Gervase Reagan and other elected officials took oath on Tuesday January 3. Lester Rozelle resigned as executive director of the Economic Opportunities Development Corporation to join Leon County schools. Rozelle, former Oakwood superintendent, has degrees from Sam Houston State and a long career in education. Mat Otten Jr. said no replacement is yet chosen for Rozelle’s post.

Parking Meters Net $81 For Firemen's Aid Fund
City manager Terry Scarborough said Thursday that 81 dollars from recent parking meter collections will be donated to the Hearne Volunteer Firemen's indigent fund. Originally all meter proceeds from Thursday through Saturday were to go to the firemen, but a six day period with controlled parking yielded a total of 271.63 dollars, with 20 percent earmarked for the fund.
