Death of Hearne pioneer Lewis W Carr 1824 1911
Mr. Lewis W. Carr long a Hearne resident and a leading organizer of the First National Bank died Saturday morning after a brief illness. Born in North Carolina February 7 1824 he moved to Texas in 1858 and helped settle Brazos bottom near Hearne. He served as Worshipful Master of Golden Rule Lodge No 361 and was active in Masonry, banking, and local development. He leaves a widow two children and several grandchildren. Funeral with Masonic honors was held Sunday at 3 p.m. in very cold weather, with a large attendance including many officials and friends from surrounding towns.
