The 24th annual Hearne Invitational Golf Tournament will be held at the local links on Saturday and Sunday April 23-24. An 18 hole blind bogey event features five flights with daybreak start and a 1 p.m. tee time limit. Net proceeds go to the Hearne Golf Association building fund.
Coming events list notes World Day of Prayer at St Marys Catholic Church on March 4 at 2 p.m. Also March 26 the Robertson County Youth Fair and Livestock Show at the Fireman's Hall area.
A Texas A&M extension horticulturist says rising prices for fruits and vegetables due to weather disruptions in Florida and California will boost home garden value. Planning early on what to plant seed varieties soil prep and fertilization will help growers save and yield a profitable crop this spring. County extension offices offer publications soil testing and expert advice on crop varieties and garden planning.
Miss Deborah Faye Flanagan earned a bachelor of science in nursing at the University of Texas at the end of the fall semester. She is a Temple High School graduate, daughter of Ben E. and the late family, granddaughter of Calvert and Temple couples, and employed by Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.
Miss Margaret Ann Rios daughter of Mr and Mrs Adolf Rios of Hearne was to undergo surgery at St Joseph Hospital in Bryan early this week. At Robertson County Community Hospital at noon Monday February 7 several patients named include Charley Ramirez Calvert George Orts Hearne Evelyn Higgins Hearne Edna Vinton Hearne Rose McCarver Hearne June Jamison Hearne Eddy Kinney Calvert Josephine O Bella Hearne Myrtle Wilson Hearne Ruby Jones Hearne Prince Ella Williams Hearne Nancy Bledge Franklin Daisy Parker Normangee Mel Davenel Hearne Beverly Jones Gause Rhonda Kay Mathews Sarah Burleson Calvert Laurie Stubbs Hearne Viola Smith Hearne Mary Brazell Gause Nicey Smith Hearne Lula Biasienz Calvert.
Mrs. Patricia Fachorn of Hearne was charged with murder after her husband Ned Fachorn died at Robertson County Community Hospital. He was shot twice at 1205 Market Street around 1 10 a.m. and taken to hospital by Heartfield Ambulance. Bond set at 2500. Investigators are Hearne Sgt Elmer Golden and James Buckley. The case awaits Robertson County Grand Jury findings. The couple, longtime Hearne residents, married about 20 years.
The First Baptist Church of Hearne youth sponsor a cake sale on Saturday February 12. Stands open at 10 a m in front of Piggly Wiggly Shopping Center and Joyce's Florist on Magnolia Street. Proceeds fund a summer youth drama tour in Texas Louisiana and Mississippi.
Dr Henry Benarden said Tuesday morning that Hearne Public Schools faced absenteeism due to flu ranging from 12 to 20 percent among students and teachers over the past two weeks.
Singing The Mount Pleasant Baptist Church will hold a singing Saturday night February 12 starting at 7 30 o clock. Everyone is invited to participate.
Hearne Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and auxiliary held a six o clock Thursday gathering at the Hearne Community Center on Davis Street for a covered dish supper and regular meeting. Special guests included County Judge Wesley Peyton and Mrs. Peyton, County Commissioner of Precinct One Oliver Burns of Calvert and County Commissioner of Precinct Two Alvis Bishop.

Texas motorists must renew registrations by April 1 with non detachable stickers on 1975 metal plates. 1977 stickers go upper right on rear plate while 1976 stays upper left. Orders by mail accepted until March 1. local tax offices advised for in person renewal and questions.
Two Hearne High School graduates, twins Martha Scamardo and Mary Scamardo, earned distinguished student ranking at A&M University. Daughters of Mr and Mrs Anthony L Scamardo of Hearne, Martha majors in computing science and Mary in accounting.

The 19th annual Heart Fund Golf Tournament runs February 26 and 27 at Marlin Country Club. It features an 18 hole blind bogey format with awards for the medalist and each flight winner.
Hearne Public Schools 15-year-old FFA members Todd Dent and Tommy Reynolds II will compete in the calf scramble March 1 at the Houston Livestock Show Rodeo. Five more Hearne FFA members enter show and rodeo events with Bob Bishop and Jack Deason Jr. entering market barrows while Keith Jentsch Tony Falco and Franky Falco enter turkeys.
Robertson County Welfare Department schedules a special meeting for Friday February 11 at 10 a m at Hearne Community Center Davis Street. The gathering aims to form a mobility commute for welfare recipients unable to reach town for food stamps and seeks volunteers for the food stamp committee and the children's clinic.
Hearne High School’s Hearne Eagles defeated Manor Mustangs 62 to 49 at the Hearne gym. Lester Davis led scoring with eight in the first, Davis totaled 14, Hammond 12, and Scamardo 12 as the Eagles dominated early and forced nine Manor turnovers. The win kept Hearne within district contention heading into upcoming games with Pflugerville, Elgin, and Rosebud-Lott.
The Norwood Cemetery Association will hold a general membership meeting at the Hearne Fire Station on Thursday February 17 at 730 p.m. All members and prospective members are urged to attend.

The Hearne Chamber of Commerce invites members and spouses to a free barbecue at Fireman's Hall Thursday February 17 at 7 p.m. New membership plaques will be distributed and a short program will be held, according to President Raymond L Theiss.
Mike Mathis son of Mr and Mrs C R Mathis of Hearne visited Stephenville on Friday to honor western artist Randy Steffen who died January 17 at his Dublin ranch. Steffen, 59, famed artist sculptor and author, once lived with Sioux Indians and was an expert on the U S Cavalry. His cremation and scattering of ashes occurred January 23 over the Wichita Mountains Oklahoma. Memorial services were held February 4 at Stephenville High School Auditorium with Maj Gen George S Patton III delivering the eulogy. Mathis performed an original piece titled Randy written for Steffen.
Calvert Country Club in Calvert schedules its annual Blind Bogey Golf Tournament for April 16-17. Eugene Gibson Jr. serves as tournament chairman.
Hearne highway patrolmen nabbed two aliens and jailed them locally along with one held on an out of county warrant one for possession of a controlled substance and one drunk pedestrian. City officers arrested one on an out of county warrant two for no drivers license one for illegal train riding and one for public intoxication. Chief E H McCaslin noted a heavy load of traffic violations investigated by the department.
The Bryan College Station chapter of Disabled American Veterans sponsors a free veterans and dependents benefits open meeting at Carpenters Hall 206 West 30th Street Bryan on Saturday and Sunday February 12 18. Hours Saturday 10 am to 5 pm Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm for veterans and dependents unaware of entitled benefits. Cmdr. Floyd D. Wells urges attendance for interested veterans and dependents.
The Sander Company previews a new line of residential housing as area residents register for a chance to win a home. National Homes plans a June 30 drawing with an independent firm selecting winners. Grand prize is a one and a half level Cape Cod house with six other major awards including furniture suites. The winning home will be erected on the winner’s property and features a finished main level, 16 by 13 living room, 23 by 11 kitchen dining room, bath, laundry, and two bedrooms 15 by 11 and 14 by 10.
A puppet show titled St Pauls Puppet People will be staged in Grace Methodist Church Hearne at 3 p m on Saturday February 12. The script group from St Pauls Methodist Bryan plans Bible stories with contemporary dialogue for all ages with no admission charged. Refreshments follow in the fellowship hall.
