A motorcycle driven by Raymond Butch Martine with Chester Lee Russell as a passenger collided, leaving both men injured. Sheriff and medical responders rushed to the scene to treat the injured locally.
Mrs. Jan W. Hughes announces candidacy for Robertson County Clerk. She is a lifelong resident of the county and pledges dedicated service, honesty, and active outreach. Distinguished student Debra Jean Boswell, daughter of Mrs. F E Boswell and Hearne High School alumna, earned top scholastic marks for the past semester at A&M University. Mrs. E M Brady returned from a five day Bible conference in Camp Zion, Myrtle Mississippi, with her son the Rev John A Brady of Houston. the event aims to deepen Bible knowledge.
Hearne Eagles drop two district basketball games in late January and early February. In a Feb 5 home contest against A&M Consolidated they fell short after an 80 80 season note. Scorers included Charles Thomas 13 Edward Wilson 9 Don Hill 8 and others.
Books checked out for the two week period ending Friday February 1. Mrs James Cortemelia librarian announces the recent donation of books and monetary contributions to the library from Mr and Mrs George B Wilson Jr and Mrs John T Welch in memory of Mrs T L Wilson of Madisonville mother of Leon Wilson. The library is open daily from 115 pm until 5 pm Monday through Friday.
Miss Carla Cotropia has enrolled at A and M University in College Station for classes after a delayed start due to a severe leg injury from a water skiing accident last summer. She is currently walking with crutches and receiving assistance.
Hearne resident Bill Houston, living in Robertson County five years, announces candidacy for Precinct Two Commissioner in the May 4 Democratic Primary. He cites Air Force service at Bryan Field, marriage to Mildred Anthis of Rockdale, and twenty years as a pipeline foreman and heavy equipment operator in Houston.
Wesley E. Peyton, 26, of Hearne announces candidacy for Robertson County County Judge in the Democratic Primary on May 4. He cites local roots, a Hearne High School and Texas A&M education, a South Texas College of Law JD, and a Houston City Attorney internship. He pledges fair tax assessment, fair probate, support for courthouse construction, open records, and ongoing county outreach.
City chambers filled for an unofficial meeting with Mayor Pro-tem Miles presiding as four of six aldermen were not present. Brazos Valley Fair Association spokesman Marlin Jentsch pressed for an 80 by 45 foot metal building by March 27 to house pens and fair activities, with a Wednesday session set to resolve details. Separate assurances were given as six city hall workers urged their names be cleared in a $10,633.03 deficit probe from 1972–73, with Brewer and Suggs planning corrective steps and a bond company may handle replacement loss.
The City Wide Brotherhood Chorus and the Williamettes singing group will perform on Saturday February 9 at seven o clock at Elam Baptist Church. Mrs Edna Davis area music director Mrs Faye Gentry area chairman and Rev QO W Mack invite the public. The next area meeting is February 16 at Jones Chapel Church with Mrs Billie Jean Williams presiding.
Edna Earl Sloan announces candidacy for Justice of the Peace Precinct Two in Robertson County Hearne. A longtime resident, she says she will devote full time if elected and asks for votes in the Democratic Primary on May 4.
James Starkey announces poster contest winners sponsored by Hearne Volunteer Fire Department. Awards include Hearne Schools winners with school page divisions and grade levels across North Side West Side and East Side. Winners include Kathy Pratt Theresa Loria Gloria Garcia Ray Buechler John Randazzo Jackie Kwasnica Tina Porter Sheila Whiteside Jacky Bhuyan Jan Brig nac Keri Arrington Shirl Lehoski.
The State Highway Commission approved the 1975-77 consolidated Texas program for District 17, including Robertson County, totaling 6.772 million dollars. It adds three new projects at 1.222 million and nine more at 5.55 million, with two Robertson County projects moving to contract.
