Austin Texas Friday legislative action confirmed a large slate of Ferguson era appointees including W D Cowan as markets and warehouse commissioner and BH Crocker as labor commissioner. Also named were university and professional board appointees with several Neff recess appointees rejected and five university regents named. A joint penitentiary inquiry was authorized and several criminal justice bills advanced.
Governor Miriam A Ferguson announced a new complete live stock sanitary commission on Monday. Members named are Leo Callan of San Antonio, Caesar Kleberg of Kingsville, Dr. E. F. Jarrell of Smith County. Fort Worth remains headquarters with Callan as chairman succeeding J B Boog-Scott. The current commissioners J B Moore of Del Rio and Paul L. Smith of Gilmer remain.
The Interstate Commerce Commission ruled Friday that peddler rates for cotton seed oil lard substitutes and other cooking oils from Houston and Sherman Texas to Oklahoma Arkansas and Louisiana are unreasonable and unduly preferential to lard shippers. The decision cited higher or potentially higher rates for same distances in peddler cars.
Sanitary Inspector Clyda R. Harvill of the United States Public Health Service moves headquarters from Robstown to Alice. He will oversee mosquito control efforts across Jim Wells Duval Brooks and Jim Hogg Counties in cooperation with local elites and counties.
