Judges Plan Final Decorating Contest Judging

Judges from five sponsoring clubs will meet Friday to finalize four day judging of outdoor decorations across Hearne city limits. The contest runs December 15 to 17 with five sections to view all decorated homes. Prizes include two firsts $30 each two seconds $20 each and two thirds $15 each.

A&M College Names Dotson to Who's Who Honoree

Alfa Dotson of Hearne will be one of 37 A&M College students named in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Dotson edits the Agriculturalist, serves on the Civilian Honor Council, and is a Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Zeta member. He is a senior with top scholastic standing since enrolling at A&M after Hearne High School graduation.

The Hearne American Legion hosts its annual Christmas party on Friday December 21 at 7 p m in the local Legion hall. Commander Halbert Hanson of Miles Scriviner Post 454 announced the event. Odis A Hoyt was appointed to the Hearne School Board to fill the unexpired term of Guy Chandler and will be sworn in at the next meeting. Hoyt, co owner of Hoyts Post Office Pharmacy, is a Hearne and Robertson County businessman and UT pharmacy graduate who served in World War II. Eagle Scouts To Attend Annual Recognition Dinner

Eagle Scouts Bill Birdwell and Milton Strong of Troop 84 Hearne will attend the Annual Recognition Dinner at Camp Hudson Houston December 7. Over 270 Eagle Scouts and sponsors are expected. Eagles earning rank since January 1 through October 31 are invited. Sponsors will help explore their vocational fields. Hearne boys will stay with Milton Strongs aunt Miss Inez Strong in Houston.

Honor Society hears Mrs Doherty at meeting

The National Honor Society met in the high school auditorium on Thursday November 29. Guest speaker Mrs. B K Doherty discussed secretarial work, stressing efficiency and spelling accuracy as key secretary qualities. She urged students to maximize their effort in business college to reap the rewards.

Hearne Eagles Top Allen Academy In Bryan Showdown

Hearne Eagle basketball team defeated Allen Academy 39 to 36 in Bryan Tuesday night to rebound from a previous tournament exit. Center Steve O Neal led scoring with six field goals plus a free throw for 13 points, while Bill Jackson and John Mathis added six and seven points respectively. Allen Academy center Terry topped their side with 12 points. Hearne B team with George Smith Jr. scoring 11 won over Allen Academy reserves.

Dr Cummings Named Texas ACP President At Galveston Meet

Dr Hatch W Cummings Jr of Houston was nominated to a three year term as Texas Governor of the American College of Physicians at the state meeting in Galveston. He serves as chief of staff and internal medicine at Methodist Hospital and will succeed Dr Victor Schulze of San Angelo. The nomination awaits ratification at the national convention in Denver in April 193. Born in Hearne he has lived in Houston since 1929 and holds Tulane Medical College credentials while teaching at Baylor University Medical College. He has led the Texas Academy of Internal Medicine and the Texas Club of Internists.

Jury Completes Questioning In Rape Trial Of Louis Berrara

In a District Court session on December 4, jury members were selected and 105 potential jurors were questioned by defense attorney Sam Jones and County Attorney Bryan Russ. Witness testimony began with Deputy Sheriff E P Elliott detailing events leading to the arrest and the scene of the alleged crime. Judge John Barron ordered a brief juror removal during evidence presentation, as proceedings continued with chemist Charles Smith and a Hearne woman identified in the case. Berrara, charged with raping a Hearne woman on April 32, pleaded not guilty and remains jailed. The Grand Jury returned a true indictment and bond was denied. sentencing remarks by Prosecutor Russ had not been announced.

Weber Named Vice President and General Manager

John D. Weber, son of Mrs. L. E. Weber of Hearne, has been elected vice president and general manager of Rotek Incorporated in Cleveland Ohio. Rotek will manufacture large anti friction ball and roller bearings. He oversees all manufacturing and sales operations. Weber is a Naval Academy graduate who served in the Korean War and World War II.

Junior High Basketeers Enter District Tournament

The District 19AA junior high basketball team, coached by Bill Sweet, will enter the Caldwell tournament on December 13 14 and 15 and meet Milano in Hearne Thursday night. Aiming for a strong season start January 7, probable starters include James Paul Baker Joe Wilson Bill Sweet Kenneth Stone and Pete Martin or Mike Griffin with bench players listed. The squad will also enter the A&M tournament January 4-5 and plays additional games through February 7 at Rockdale Cameron Caldwell and A&M.

Carol Altimore Named To Bluebonnet Girls Staff

Miss Carol Ann Altimore received notice of her appointment as a staff member for the 1963 Bluebonnet Girls State session in Austin. Only 18 of the 400 girls who attended the 1962 session were saved by Miles Scriviner local rescue efforts.
