Bank Robbery at Calvert Bank Net $24,000
Citizens Bank and Trust of Calvert was robbed of a net $24,000 at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The bandit took bank president Billy R. Hall hostage and forced him to drive, withdrawing $33,000 in a paper bag. Hall was later released after a pursuit that yielded about $9,000 recovered in the car. Authorities issued roadblocks and an ambulance sighting, but no solid leads emerged.

Five Year Sentence Is Given Moore In Murder
Ezell Moore, 34, of Hearne, pleaded guilty to murder without malice and received a five year penitentiary term from Judge C. B. Maynard in Brenham. Credit for seven months already served. Moore was arrested April 19 for the April 18 shooting death of Mrs. Mildred Stark Withers at D. D. Stark’s Drive In Grocery. Trial moved on change of venue. County Attorney Bryan F. Russ prosecuted.
