Safety Programs Should Be State Regulated Only
William K. Zinke of the National Association of Manufacturers argues against a proposed federal Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1968. He says federal controls would cost untold millions and be less effective than state safety programs, citing a 67 percent drop in work related deaths since 1912 and suggesting workers are safer at home or on the road. He notes the bill lacks consultation with state health officials and would grant the Labor Secretary broad power, despite House revisions.
