Superintendent G G Grant announced this week that Wednesday May 20 marks the last day of instruction for Hearne Public Schools. Other dates to note include eighth grade graduation on May 21 at West Side School 9 30 a m high school graduation on May 22 at 8 p m and baccalaureate services on May 17.

The 1964 Hearne High School seniors stage the three act comedy Ask Any Girl Friday night May 1 at 8 in the auditorium. Tickets are sold at the door with 50 cents for students and adults and 25 cents for grade school students. Kathryn Bishop supervises and directs the production.

Tape Friends Feted In Merriman Hendrix Homes

Mr and Mrs George Hines of Pest Falls Idaho visited the Leslie F Merriman and W C Hendrix homes. They met through a tape correspondence club and have exchanged tapes for years visiting Hearne Los Angeles Las Vegas and Missouri before Idaho. Mrs Hines is a noted poet and Mr Hines works with Kaiser Aluminum. Georgia correspondent Mr and Mrs G D Hendrix are to visit next month.

Karney Addresses ASMS On Facial Pain Treatment

Dr. F W C Karney told the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons in Houston that facial pain from jaw irregularity can often be treated. He lives in Hearne with his family and runs dental practices there and in Houston, with numerous honors as an outstanding surgeon.

East Hearne to Install Curb and Gutter on First Come Basis

Notices were sent to East Hearne property owners announcing a plan to install curb and gutter at a nominal cost. City Manager N L McCarver said the project will proceed on a first come basis, with owners asked to sign agreements and return them to City Hall promptly. The city hopes to begin by June 1 on the first approved street.

Hearne Students Plan Youth Code With Parent-Youth Group

Hearne High School students from each class met with the Youth Code Committee of the Hearne Parent-Youth Association to draft a tentative Youth Code. The assembly, held in the First State Bank Community Room, will lead to student body comment, parent discussions, and eventual adoption steps. Also noted is St. Mary’s Altar Society spaghetti dinner and bazaar on April 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the church annex. Adults pay $1, children under 12 pay 50 cents.

Mrs. Kubiak Shot Saturday in Texas yard

Mrs. John ST Kubiak, 68, is recovering after being shot in the arm at 6 10 am Saturday while walking in her yard between Hammond and Bremond. Deputy Sheriff E P Elliott says two Oklahoma men drove by and fired. one has been arrested and is held in Franklin jail, the other is being sought. The deputy calls the shooting an act of meanness and cruelty, noting the attackers did not know the victim.

Wheelock 4-H Club Teams Compete in District Elims

The Wheelock 4-H Club sent three teams to Nacogdoches on April 18 for district eliminations. Electicity team finished third with Susan Ruddle and Bill Leighman. Soil Evaluation team Duane Marsh James Marsh and David Smith won first with blue ribbons. Share-the-Fun group earned experience but no ribbon. Adult sponsors included Mrs Ruddle Mrs Marsh Harry Smith and visitors Mrs Smith and Mrs Manthei.
