Truck Found Abandoned After Fort Worth Theft

A $14,000 Mack truck was found abandoned on Lighth Street Thursday night by City Police. Owner G. B. Slate of Mount Airy North Carolina. The truck was stolen from the driver in Fort Worth Wednesday and claimed for the owner on Friday last week. Twelve people were fined for traffic violations in the past week and a 17 year old girl faces theft charges in City Court. Robert Trugello and Jesse Rodriguez were arrested in a downtown cafe on Wednesday night and charged with affray in City Court. Rodriguez remained in custody Thursday for investigation.

Many Relatives Here For Cornforth Rites

Out-of-town relatives and friends attended funeral services for Mrs. A. B. Cornforth on Thursday, March 27. Attendees listed include Fred Cornforth, Bruce Kendrick, Louis Brunett, H. R. Hearne High School Eagles announce an eight game 22 A district schedule for spring. At a Groesbeck meeting March 17 H O Whitehurst was named district chair. Home games at Legion Park start at 4 00 pm with four home dates.

New Arrivals in Town families welcome two births

A son, James Edward, was born to Mr and Mrs John Geyser on April 1. A son, Daniel Terrell, was born to Mr and Mrs Terrell Rainwater on April 8. The newborn weighed 9 pounds 11 ounces.

Voters in Hearne vote tomorrow for three of four candidates to fill three board of trustees seats. About 1500 district residents eligible with poll tax receipts. voting at the fire station from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Encourage turnout to back better schools.

Chosen Sweetheart Miss Claudia McCollum At TCU

Claudia McCollum, a Junior Favorite at Texas Christian University, has been selected as TCU Sweetheart to represent the university at the Texas University Roundup in Austin begun April 1. The festivities close Saturday with a Texas University Sweetheart chosen. Miss McCollum is a Hearne High School graduate, daughter of Mr and Mrs C H McCollum.

Highway Mishaps Reported Near Benchley and Easterly

Mrs Louise Regions of Mart suffered a slight injury when the car she rode in skidded on wet pavement and overturned near the Benchley underpass early Wednesday March 26. The 1941 model vehicle driven by J J Curry of Velasco carried Mrs Curry and nine children with no further injuries though the car was badly damaged. A semitrailer truck with two loads overturned into a pond near Easterly Tuesday noon after the driver lost control on a curve. Owned by H R Henderson Construction of Marshall, the truck was driven by Charlie Adolph Williams of Marshall. Four wreckers spent about three hours righting the overturned vehicles following investigations by Patrolmen Brown and Tippitt.

An aerial image of a farm residence in the Hearne area prompts residents to identify the home. The first correct entrant receives $2 in groceries, the second a six month subscription to The Democrat, with names published next week and a 5 by 7 inch slip mounted photo awarded to the winner who must claim it by Tuesday at the Hearne office.

Austin Man Is Rotary Speaker

R. C. Norris of Austin, connected with Radio House, spoke to the Hearne Rotary Club on Mass Communications. He described media effects on public life through newspapers, radio and other outlets. Dick Henderson was elected president of the Hearne Lions Club at the Tuesday luncheon and will take duties May 1 for the 1962 68 calendar year. Good Friday Union Service Across Local Churches

A Good Friday union service will be held Friday April from 12 30 to 3 00 at Grace Methodist Church. Hearne announces a citywide Clean-Up Paint-Up and Fix-Up drive from April 6 to 12 led by Chamber of Commerce chair W H Parsons and the Green Thumb Garden Club. Citizens may join the Hearne Beautiful Contest by calling the Chamber office before April 5. prizes include $5 for white and colored winners.

Sheriff’s Office Reports Local Arrests

J L Burgess and Q C Tillman, both colored of Calvert, were arrested by the sheriff this week. Tillman was fined 25.00 and cost of court in justice court on a charge of misdemeanor theft. Burgess is still in the county jail and is charged in District Court with felony theft.
