Engineer Dead In Derailment Near Calvert
Three engines and 28 cars of a 100 car Southern Pacific train derailed four miles north of Calvert at 6 a m Tuesday after lightning is believed to set Walnut Creek Bridge on fire. Engineer S A Alford of Ennis died instantly. Injured crew members J D Dietsel and Raymond Eskabar, both Ennis, were taken to hospital. Conductor W R Brown and brakeman M C Wooten were uninjured and firemen fought fires Tuesday afternoon.

Suit Seeks Reinstating Fired City Bookkeeper
The American Civil Liberties Foundation of Texas sues in federal court at Waco on behalf of Mrs. May Beth Bishop, a former Hearne bookkeeper, seeking reinstatement with back pay and benefits, $10,000 exemplary damages, and attorney fees.
