Hearne Eagles win AA division at Temple Relays with 96 1/3 points beating 11 rivals. Larry Murphy 25 points and Charles Roach 20 support, with top finishes from J D Wilkins discus 145 feet 1 inch and 440 relay 44.3 winning 20 points. Coach Reeder notes mile relay effort and improvement weekly, heading to Belton Relays.

Eagles Open District Play at Taylor and Elgin

Hearne Eagles travel to Taylor for a 7 p.m. Friday game and begin district play in Elgin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Last week they went 1 3 in games, beating Marlin 11 7 with J D Wilkins 3 for 4 and Bruce Henry homering. They lost 3 2 to A&M Consolidated and 1 0 to Burton in the A M Tournament. Bates, Byrd and Young featured in the losses with Bates scoring on a walk and a fielder’s choice. Bates named to All Tournament Team.

Walkathon Saturday Hearne to Franklin

Robertson County Area Association for Retarded Citizens sponsors a walkathon on Saturday April 3 with a rain date April 10. Participants meet at 8 a.m. at Wood Field on the Junior High campus in Hearne and walk to Franklin, followed by a free picnic lunch. Proceeds support local services from preschool programs to the sheltered workshop, with small shares to state and national associations.

Oak Grove Country Club Franklin announces entries remain for the sixth annual Blind Bogey Golf Tournament on April 10 and 11 attracting over 200 central Texas players. Hearne Polls Open Earlier Saturday for School Board Vote

Hearne voters will cast ballots Saturday April 3 from 7 a m to 7 p m. at the Junior High School auditorium for three school board seats. Incumbents Dr Ken Kennamer and James Florence run unopposed for places, while Steve Pursley faces Numa Bulot for place five. Precinct 21 residents vote at Junior High and Precinct Two at the Hearne Fire Station. City Council races include Dr B K Doherty John H Miles Jr Ron Ellis Baylor Carrington Nolan Griffin and Howard Anderson seeking seats.

Engineer Dead In Derailment Near Calvert

Three engines and 28 cars of a 100 car Southern Pacific train derailed four miles north of Calvert at 6 a m Tuesday after lightning is believed to set Walnut Creek Bridge on fire. Engineer S A Alford of Ennis died instantly. Injured crew members J D Dietsel and Raymond Eskabar, both Ennis, were taken to hospital. Conductor W R Brown and brakeman M C Wooten were uninjured and firemen fought fires Tuesday afternoon.

Suit Seeks Reinstating Fired City Bookkeeper

The American Civil Liberties Foundation of Texas sues in federal court at Waco on behalf of Mrs. May Beth Bishop, a former Hearne bookkeeper, seeking reinstatement with back pay and benefits, $10,000 exemplary damages, and attorney fees. The suit cites her firing March 29, 1974, after a Robertson County grand jury indicted six city officials over city funds.

The annual crusade to raise funds for the American Cancer Society will run in Robertson County from April 3 to April 17. The drive supports service, education, rehabilitation and cancer research programs in the community.

Auction Sale Brings $18,371 For Students

Robertson County Junior Fair Association president Marlin Jentsch announced that Saturday's auction sale raised 18 371 08 for participating students. Top animal results included Pat Czajkowski's grand champion steer sold for 1105 to B J Valve and Fitting and John Sanders reserve steer to Zeig Sheet Metal for 986. Other high bids covered rabbits, turkeys, broilers, hogs, lambs, and beef and dairy classes, with multiple donations to Franklin FFA and Hearne Fire Department.

Draft Boards Close May 8 in Texas
