Stockton dispatch reports a sharp rise in potato prices with $1.76 per sack at central markets and as high as $2.06 earlier. Growers dig daily for large shipments by train, many destined for the Southern states, though prices fluctuated before stabilization.
The State Mary Grounds show notable activity with three concrete buildings nearing completion for dairy and livestock exhibits. Dust from the road is being remedied with crushed gravel layers, lawn planting is under consideration, and a poultry exhibit area was relocated to accommodate grandstand plans. The Oakland Chamber of Commerce conference was accepted for road development discussions, while bids and road projects in Alameda County proceed with cost estimates and new sign installations planned.
Two workers were badly burned in an asphalt plant explosion in the afternoon. Night watchman Ruel Hansen, stood at the kettle when the blast occurred and sustained severe burns, while laborer Joe Aransco was burned, though less severely. Dr. G R Reynolds treated Hansen at home on B Street, and the doctor advised hospital care not taken. The incident prompted cautions to stay away from the boiler. Hansen's injuries will keep him out for weeks.
At a regular meeting of the Fairview Improvement Club on Saturday evening, officers were elected: President Thomas Nissen, first vice president Mrs Walker, second vice president Mrs Heckman, secretary C W Mattern. A resolution urged the Board of Supervisors to repair a roadway on Paleytow Avenue and replace damaged Kelly FEL with winter ratna. The club welcomed Hayr Ward post office joining the Postal Savings Bank system and urged expanding parcel scope to allow eleven pound international parcels, easing domestic weight limits.

Notice to the public from the Hayward Mercantile Association states that starting September 1 credit will be limited to monthly bills paid the following month with interest on any unpaid balances. The aim is to shift transactions to Hayward on a cash basis to meet outside competition while supporting local merchants. The association urges local residents to favor Hayward merchants and trade on fair terms.
A call for a September 8 1911 bond election in Union High School District Number Three Alameda County California to issue eighty thousand dollars in one thousand dollar bonds at five percent for a new high school building lot and facilities with bonds maturing from six to thirty five years. The notice lists polling places and appointed inspectors and judges for the district precincts.
