The final span of the Dumbarton highway bridge was floated into place marking a key step toward the first San Francisco Bay crossing. Sycamore Lodge plans a October 30 celebration for its 53rd anniversary with speakers, a roll call, dance, and entertainment. A Newcastle to Newark rock base crew and a San Mateo end road crew are advancing the approach with opening expected early next year. The bridge is about 3000 feet long with a central draw and a $2,000,000 cost, linking Niles Canyon to interior valleys and anticipated to boost regional farming and market access by shortening routes to San Francisco.

About a dozen enthusiasts met in the Chamber of Commerce rooms on Tuesday to organize a Horseshoe Club. Plans include night pitching at either Jacob Warder Jr. Jet corner or the Harvard theatre rear lot, with any interested players invited to join at about $1 for equipment and grounds upkeep as the club grows naturally.
