Hayward District Chest Drive Forms Five Business Committees
A five committee business men’s drive is organized to canvass 270 Hayward business houses and the Eden township area east of San Leandro for the Hayward District Community Chest starting Tuesday. Volunteers are sought to canvass every residential block and work from campaign centers at the Farm Bureau office then the old Bank of Italy building.

John Macedo Returns From Eventful New York Voyage
John Macedo, assistant purser, arrives home after a voyage to New York aboard the Venezuela of the Pacific Mail line. The ship carried 250 passengers and ran aground off Cartagena for 32 hours before being towed free. A tornado struck near Chemperico Guatemala washing water over decks and two airplanes off the ship. A crewman leaped overboard near Mazatlan but was rescued. The voyage included Panama Canal transit and coincided with Graf Zeppelin’s first New York flight. Macedo plans another New York trip next Thursday.
