Jerry Meredith kept a 25 pound Malay bear named Bruin at Mt Eden road San Mateo. The bear rampaged Friday afternoon breaking a collar and fleeing across a field. Neighbors helped corner and lasso the animal after a tense chase. Bruin bit a tin bucket, then calmed after 24 hours in a garage.
