Derrick Norman Lehmer editor of the University of California Chronicle lectured the Hill and Valley Club with highlights on science art and modern poetry. He described the Chronicle as a coast wide critical journal now led by Calhoun with input from Yale Harvard Stanford and UC educators. He read poems including Mother Winter and The Ambush and shared verse from Hunice Mitchell Lehmer and Iaa Goodrith and Margaret Todd Ritter in a graceful recital.

Fairfield Woman Murdered and Robbed on Ranch Near Fairfield
Mrs. Margaret C. Shelly, 58, a widow and ranch resident near Fairfield, was killed after being outraged and robbed. Authorities sought a third suspect, Ah Choo, a narcotics addict, believed to have left Fairfield with funds. Two Chinese men were held briefly in connection with the case as criminologist H. O. Heinrich joined the search.
