Pioneer philanthropist Mrs Schofield dies at 92
Mrs Marla Schofield a longtime benefactor to Santa Clara County and wider California communities died Saturday at 1 30 AM in the Belvoir hotel Niles. She lived with cousin Mrs Emilie Chittenden for 19 years after moving west in 1864. A widow of Charles Schofield she left large gifts to W C A M C C A and local projects including a gymnasium in Niles and the Morgan Hill Community club house. Funeral services will be in San Jose with interment in a San Jose cemetery pending relatives’ word from the south. Surviving relatives include cousins two nieces and distant kin in the east. Born November 4 1836 she would have been 93 next month.
