Second booze offender sentenced in week in San Leandro

Louis Jacowes aged 50 was sentenced to 350 days in county jail after a liquor raid on Green Licht cafe at 495 Foothill Boulevard San Leandro. A second raid uncovered moonshine wine and alcohol in a rear cottage as officers testified.

Veterans Club to hear Hoover-Smith campaign update

Hayward Veterans' Service club members will meet at noon Tuesday in the American Legion hall to hear Charles Brown of Oakland discuss the Hoover-Smith campaign. Brown is expected to offer insights on campaign personalities, following a previous briefing by Dr. Ben Black. Harvey Darneal and Walter Trobee organized the event.

Hayward Elks Plan Banquet For New $25,000 Addition

Twenty five Hayward members of the Alameda Elks lodge will attend a Monday evening banquet at the Alameda clubhouse. The program includes a dedication for the $25,000 addition expanding the banquet hall card room and auditorium with vaudeville acts from Oakland and San Francisco following the business meeting.

Funeral Held for Infant Daughter Roumaniita Lopez

Funeral services were held Monday for Roumaniita Lopez five day old daughter of Mr and Mrs Hugo Lopez of Harvard. The infant died Sunday evening at 7 burial was in St Josephs cemetery. The Sorensen Brothers mortuary handled the services. The Lopez family has many friends who sympathize in their bereavement.

Legion Juniors to Host Baseball Dance Saturday Night

The Howard Legion Juniors club plans a social baseball dance at the American Legion hall starting at 9:30 p.m. Music will be by the Aeolian Yacht club orchestra. Proceeds benefit the basketball team fund as a season preview event.

John D. Macedo son of Mr and Mrs F Macedo of Prospect street departed Thursday aboard the steamship Venezuela for New York. He has taken the post of assistant purser with Panama Steamship Company. A noted musician from Hayward he once traveled the world with his orchestra aboard a four dollar steamship.

American Legion to pick officers after Chinatown Ball

Hayward Post No 68 to elect officers for the coming year at Thursday night meeting. Reports on finances from the recent blanket drive to fund the Legion band are expected. The circus and Chinatown ball capped the campaign with music, dancing, and the Chinatown jail spectacle drawing a large crowd.

Couple Robbed on Lake Chabot Road

Joseph A Brennan of San Francisco told Hayward officers he was held up on Lake Chabot road at 2 30 Sunday and robbed of his 1925 Nash sedan and $4 to $5. His female companion lost $14. Three masked bandits halted the Brennan auto with a pistol, fled in his Nash, and left the Chrysler coupe. Sheriff deputies planned fingerprint work on the robbers car and the recovered purse.

John Davies to Be Buried at Lone Pine

John Davies sixty years resident of California died at his home in Hayward and will be sent to Lone Pine Inyo county for funeral services. He was 60 years 7 months old and born in England. Survived by son Thomas Davies and sister Mrs James Jenkins both of Hayward. wife Elizabeth Davies died six years ago.

Stewart Freed of Milk Charge Acquitted by Jury

Dairyman Stewart Freed of C and Grand streets was acquitted of adulterating milk after a two hour trial in Judge Jacob Harder Jr. court. Jury foreman 5. C. Smith led the 12 jurors to a verdict citing questions on evidence linking the milk tested to the Stewart dairy. City milk license remains withheld by inspector Dr Nels E. Clemens despite the acquittal.
