A four car collision yesterday on Highway 30 half a mile east of Mountain Mouse left seven people injured. W T Scott 27 of Richmond drove one car while passengers include Roland Mangrum 36 and Lewis Gardner 45, both of Oakland, and Marie Ford 28 of Modesto who drove another vehicle. The incident began when Scott reportedly crossed the double line and collided with Ford. Additional collisions occurred involving Antoinette Peters 23 of Fresno and Glanzer 25 of Stockton, injuring or endangering several others, with several Oakland residents among the injured.
George Vestal, superintendent of the Maynard Area Park Recreation and Parkway district, received an invitation to join the San Francisco Junior College Advisory Committee. The committee will study a two year public recreation training program and seek Bay Area input to develop the impervi training aspects. The first meeting is scheduled at San Francisco Junior College in December.
Representatives from many local groups in San Lorenzo formed a coordinating council at a general meeting last night. Kenneth Keefe named president and Mrs Aldrich secretary as club representatives plan monthly meetings to coordinate village activities. Flight record news reports a USAAF B 29 Superfortress arriving from Guam setting a new noonstop distance record of about 8198 miles in Washington.

Knox, president of iKnox Securities in Oakland, spoke at the Kiwanis weekly meeting at Castro Villa. His planned sub topic was teased as Pease, Now Whit. and the report notes the event occurred during a lively evening at the club gathering.
A coroner's inquest found a baby died from asphyxia caused by an improper sleeping garment. The jurors recommended removal of the sleeping barrier type to prevent future incidents. The child was the son of Mr and Mrs J H Dinsdale of San Lorenzo.

Admiral Richardson testified before the Pearl Harbor committee that FDR opposed stretching Navy personnel in Hawaii and kept the Pacific fleet there as a deterrent. He said Roosevelt overruled warnings and cited a January Knox letter noting possible Japanese surprise attack.
Local area women are urged to enter the nationwide motion picture industry backed contest to win a year long film contract and other prizes. Eligible girls 18 to 26 may enter at Hayward theaters or The Hayward Review with ballots valid only between November 12 and December 1.

City council heard a report from the Planning commission on 44 duplications of street names in the Hayward area. Specific cases include Castro Street appearing in Hayward Alvarado and Russell City, plus multiple Alice Streets and Almond roads. Other items covered include sewer connections, water pumping at Alvarado well by December 15, and bids for guardrail construction on Warren Street.
Safeway stores in San Francisco closed as a wage and picket strike affected the city. Union drivers picketed Safeway locations while clerks refused to cross lines, despite a tentative agreement to maintain the $40 weekly wage scale and 48 hour week, with a new $8 weekly increase set to take effect in March.

Harry Feickert, former Shell Oil plant manager in Hayward, died after his car went off the road near Healdsburg, pinning him beneath the vehicle. He was a noted figure in Hayward, having served seven to eight years with Shell, then moving to Livermore and Concord before taking the Healdsburg post.
State Fair Sacramento will be held from August 20 to September 28 marking the first fair in four years. The fair board of directors announced the dates today, outlining a season of exhibitions and events across the Sacramento site.
