Hay Ward city council moves to authorize an actuarial survey on costs and feasibility of a municipal retirement plan for city employees. Other notes mention local events, the Pearl Harbor investigation, public concerns about civil wars, and praise for youths funding the Fairview firehouse via scrap drives.
President Truman outlined a broad five point national health program in a message to Congress. He urged federal aid for hospital and health facilities, expanded public health and maternal child services, support for medical education and research, compulsory national health insurance for prepayment of medical costs, and disability insurance to protect wages during illness or disability.
The mass trial of Nazi war criminals will resume at ten tomorrow after last minute talks among representatives of the United States Great Britain Russia and France.
Dr. Hayward G. Thomas will head the county wide committee directing the 1945 Christmas Seals sale to fund tuberculosis efforts in Alamada County. Mrs Delgep Trowbridge announced the drive opens this year and runs until Christmas. Layward committee members include save B Parsons chair, Mrs Frank E Pereira and Frederic P Johnson. Dr Thomas highlighted tuberculosis as a common disease requiring broad public health action to prevent its spread, calling for a peaceful future with healthy people.

A San Lorenzo brother and sister, once reported as runaways, confessed to Alameda police that they robbed two grocery stores taking about $80. They had been missing two weeks and were found back at their Alameda home. They allegedly stole $20 in pennies from five registers at the Lucky store and $60 from a war relief donation box at another market. Entry was gained by breaking glass in doors.
General Dwight D. Eisenhower remained at his wife Mrs. Eisenhower’s bedside at Boone County Hospital where she is treated for bronchial pneumonia discovered early after she arrived for a visit. Mrs. Eisenhower, 49, was hospitalized two hours after arrival. x rays showed congestion in both lungs and penticillin injections are helping. Temperature fell to 100.2 degrees. condition described as very satisfactory. Lieutenant Colonel James Stick said the general would leave tonight for the American Legion conference in Chicago, barring complications.
Testimony identified Rear Adm. Husbands Kimmel as the presumed orderer of battleships to form a tight crescent opposite Ford Island at Pearl Harbor on December 7 1941. Admiral Inglis said a large part of the Pacific Fleet was anchored there that morning. Gearhart pressed for who issued the orders comparing Pacific Fleet Chief to the Pearl Harbor operation chief. Hull may testify on diplomatic message interpretation if health allows.
Funeral services were held for baby Carole Ann Leach at Oule AUT cemetery in San Jose this morning under Pratt-Flier mortuary auspices. The 14-year-old daughter of Carrol Leach of 390 Worth Mir street died Friday a few months after her mother. The father formerly served as a teacher in Hayward public schools.
Sam Maita reported to the Hayward substation that the N and M market at 218 A Street was burglarized over the weekend for money liquor and cigars. Two suspects were named by Maita. Entrance was gained by breaking a window.
Navy truck and car collision on Highway 40 near Pergola Hill kills Charles M. Mead USN and another service member. Fire and injuries follow as the Navy vehicle topples and ignites. Additional weekend crashes report several injuries including Sylvester Zaciweki and spouses, with others named from the Navy and local towns. Police and hospital reports begin to detail victims and eyewitness accounts.
Cracknell and Sandoval led a Saturday KLX broadcast with Oakland Chamber of Commerce about the Hayward Area future. Cracknell outlined area aims and a proposed fair while Sandoval cited 17 000 wartime population growth and the need for a school bond vote in January. He noted overcrowding in Hayward districts and the conversion of spaces to classrooms due to rising demand. A follow up program is set for Saturday January 13 from 9 15 to 9 30 PM to cover school bonds.
Special meetings will be conducted at Castro Valley Gospel hall near Smrinebridge and Cusica Valley boulevard. Beginning Sunday November 28 nightly sessions run through December 7 with Nail Mc Fraser leading.
A last minute Russian bid sought to postpone the opening of a war crimes trial until Soviet Prosecutor Roman Rudenko could attend. Indications, however, pointed to the trial resuming as planned the next day.
The House Interstate Commerce newsprint subcommittee recommended today that all contents on newsprint be deified as of midnight. Committee Chairman Lyle H. Boren of Oklahoma sent a letter outlining the views to J Hale Steinman director of the printing and publishing division of the Civilian Production Administration.
United Press reports Charles Roe, leader of the carpenters union and Hayward trade council, denounces CIO machinists tactics in the East Bay strike. He cites alleged poaching of closed-shop agreements, vows to uphold AFL rules, and claims workers face risk as CIO pickets and arbitration debates continue.
Nationalist troops report capture of the strategic railway center Suichung 40 miles northeast of Shanhaikwan and two nearby North China towns Funing and Shihmenchsi as part of a broader push toward Manchuria. Yenan denies Communist landings while observers see the moves as widening Nationalist penetration and pressuring Chinwangtao and Liaotung coastal positions.
The Alameda County Teachers Institute opened today at Hit Wird high school with a general session led by Vaughn J. Lei county superintendent and remarks by Helen Silver and Howe. Dr. Frank N. Fr dein from the school of education at the university and Dr. J. Paul Lavonard of State college discussed planning for Alameda County youth. Hayward Union high school orchestra conducted by Bubvard White provided music.
London reports the Labour government plans to broaden nationalization to include civil transport gas and electricity industries. Herbert Morrison the lord president of the council stated in commons the aim to expand the nationalization program while noting shipping will not be nationalized.
In San Francisco the Bread representatives protested shortages on the eve of Thanksgiving with Mayor Dan Chillusher. The Teamsters council planned to meet to discuss CIO fines and AFL disputes, while Grocery Clerks prepared talks with AFL officials over proposed wage agreements. Cleaners were noted in a brief unrelated update.
